Oh, the Things to
Change
.. ..
There are many products in which I would like to change
things about; cars, televisions, video game systems, the list is endless. But when I really sat down and thought about
the one item I would really like to change that I use in my everyday life, one
idea kept floating to the top - the internet.
Now why would you want to change one of the greatest inventions of the
modern area, you may be asking yourself, right?
Well my answer will have to be delivered in two parts…
.. ..
Number one…
Stupidity. Plain and simple, I
think, but for those of you that may need a little more of an explanation, here
we go. Right here, in front of my face
and yours, in almost every home in ....America....,
most schools and libraries, we have the most powerful tool in the world. Any PC or Mac (or cell phone, Blackberry, etc…),
can be turned into the most exciting and useful teaching tool in the
world. You can learn about places, or
times, you may never get the luxury to experience. You can learn to speak a different language,
write and read, even teach yourself to become a better and more productive
human being. And what, in all our
infinite glory, have us humans turned this wonderful learning tool into… A porn portal!
.. ..
Why is it that porn sites, mostly free these days, take up
the majority of website populations?
Because computers are only as good as those that program them, and the internet
is no different. People are stupid, so it would only go that the things they program
become stupid. I understand in a free
society, such as the one ....America....
claims to have (but we all know that is not really true), these things will
have to be dealt with, and I am A-OK with that.
My only problem is sheer number of these sites that have popped up, and
continue to pop up everyday. Come on
people, is this really necessary?
.. ..
Problem two, and just as important… hypocrisy.
Every single website and and portal have their own rules and regulations
(see: SPAM Filters), but those rules are meant to be broken by those that make
them. How many times have you opened
your inbox to find numerous amounts of spam from your ISP, cable provider, or
email host? The worst culprits of all on
this point have to be the social networking sites. Take the site myYearbook, for example. One of the fastest growing social networking
sites on the net, and understand that their site is populated with many younger
users, so they have taken measures against nudity, violence, and drug use on
their site. Great, right? Now if you check their ‘Pimp’ section which
has numerous images, backgrounds, and falling images that you can use to pimp
your page out with, there are pages and pages of marijuana themed
graphics. Now being a smoker, as I am,
this does not offend me. But being an
American with a brain, I am bothered by the numerous users getting deleted and
banned for using the same type of images that these sites promote using themselves.
.. ..
In short, what I would like to change about the internet are
the people that program it.....
