Current mood:  sore
andLinux Update:

Well, I threw out my back and have been pretty much sitting/laying all day... so andLinux PreBeta is done.  I got the WinTap changes completed (albeit a bit messy), moved the base to Ubuntu Edgy Eft, fixed my compile issues, etc...  I just need to clean things up, write up some documentation, get it packaged and upload.

Please note that there will not be an updater in this version since we are moving from Debian Unstable to Ubuntu Edgy.  I also have a few things to work out with the updater also.  Here is the thing:  The initial design (working) is that you make your previous andLinux's base.drv  into Drives/old.drv.  andLinux will detect the drive on startup, read all of the installed packages and install them into the new base.  After, it will copy over the /root changes, /home, /etc, etc.  The issue is that, at least for me, I tend to clutter my drives with unwanted applications and really wouldn't want every installed package to be downloaded/installed.  This means that I need to come up with a way of making a semi-interactive mode for the updater.  It also means a rewrite and redesign.

ADDED:  Oh, I forgot to mention some of the newest changes.

UBUNTU:  The Linux base has been moved from Debian Unstable to Ubuntu Edgy Eft.
WINTAP:  All non-Internet communication uses the WinTap protocal.  Slirp is great for Internet, but was just too slow for X and sound.  Due to adding WinTap, you can now use graphic applications that andLinux just couldn't handle before.
TOOLBAR:  andLinux no longer just pops open a console on bootup.  I have moved to using Xfce's toolbar.  It is lightweight, clean, fast and customizable.
PERFORMANCE:  Aside from the performance enhancements above, I have been working very hard to improve the filesystem speed.  I still experience some slow boot times when I first start andLinux, but they have gone from 3-5 minutes to well under a minute.
UPDATES:  As usual, we move to the latest-and-greatest versions of CoLinux.  We have also moved to the 2.6.17 kernel.
MUCHMORE: As always, I have made so many changes over the last I don't know how many months, that I can't even think of half the changes I made.  I swore I was going to write them down as I went along but the Ubuntu core change kind of killed that.

I would really love to hear everyones ideas and thoughts on the updater, andLinux, Ubunutu, WinTap and... well... just about everything.
