ONE I WANT
Poor man, he just want a little
Rich man, want a little bit more
Super man, he looking for Lois
Sales man, try and sell you his soul
Fat man, he's ordering seconds
Pizza man, just wanna slice
Bad man, looking for attention
A good man, he's hard to find

Mail man, looking more like your daughter
Straw man, don't have a leg to stand on
Gay man, looking for another
Candy man, yeah the candy man can
Black man, he looking' for justice
White man, trying' to get a tan
Woman, just wanna fly in first class
Holy man, take me to the promised land

Everyone's looking for something, Wanting their piece of the pie
Searching for their slice of heaven, I gotta have mine

And you're the one I want (the one I want)
The only one I want (the one I want)

Boogie man, he giving me the creeps
Sand man, kicking mud in your eye
Piano man, in the mood for a melody
Strong man, yeah he knows how to cry
Ape man, ain't nobody's uncle
A lucky man don't always know who they are
Dead man, living for tomorrow
Wise man, following a star

Well I ain't saying I'm different, Wanting my pie in the sky
I'm just a little impatient, Until I get mine
==========================
FROM AFAR
If I cannot see you from afar
Look into your eyes, that hint of depth
Hidden inside
If I cannot hear you from afar
Whisper in my ear, rest assured that
You are near

And I know not what it's like, The aforementioned
For the distance between us, As are the stars, I only have you
In my imagination, In my imagination
Just to love you, From afar

If I cannot kiss you from afar
Press against your lips, taste the sweetness
Of your breath
If I cannot touch you from afar
Hold you in my arms, keep you warm and
Safe from harm

Though our circumstances, Cause separation
In the absence, there's a presence in my heart
I will surrender to my Quiet contemplation, My quiet contemplation
I'll just love you, From afar

There must be a better way, A better way of passing the time
I can't seem to get her out, Get her out of my mind
=================================
ONCE
Once embraced, can't ever be let go
Once revealed, can't ever be not shown
Once believed, can't ever lose faith
Once shared, can't ever be separate
Once sown, can't ever be not reaped

Like the dawn of a brand new day
felt the power and glory
I can feel it inside of me
Feel it. Can you feel it?

Once born, can't ever be not conceived
Once present, can't ever be past
Once first, can't ever be not ever last

Returning home of the prodigal
Holding the intangible
To believe in a miracle
Believe it. Can you believe it?

Have you ever been touched Once, really touched?
Could it ever be too much, I don't know, can you tell me?
Have you ever really touched, love once?

Once seen, can't ever lose sight
Once dawn, can't ever be not light
Once felt, Can't ever be untouched

The assurance only hope can bring
With the conviction of the unseen
See it's greater than everything
See it, oh can you see it?
================
HOW MANY SAY I
Are you ever so silent, when she wanted to talk?
Or couldn't keep quiet, when she needed a hug?
Come on too strong, when a little's too much?
How many, how many, say I

Go on and say yes, and really mean no?
Would you rather guess, when you just don't know?
And then say I love you, but aren't willing to show?
How many, how many, say I

Say live and let live, so quick to judge?
Slow to forgive, when you're holding a grudge?
Don't always believe, all you need is love?
How many, how many, say I

Have you ever looked down, when the homeless walked by?
Or changed the channel, on a hungry child?
Know something to be true, then deny?
How many, how many, say I

Gary,

Great lyrics-- I always thought your contributions were very underrated. It was good work and good songs, I thought VH3 was a good record. I still say you were what they needed. Instead, VH became an oldies act.

Keep the faith!

Wow! It never ceases to amaze me every time that I read through your lyrics.

I have to thank you especially for How Many Say I, because that is truly one of my favorites, and is so often overlooked. The only thing that could make it better is some of your thoughts of how you became inspired to write them.

Thanks!

I worked as a stagehand for a show on that tour.

You guys sounded pretty awesome.

I was at FOH during A Year To The Day and I was crying-it was so beautiful and powerful.

The CD never got much of chance because it was so different from what people expected from VH.

It's too bad it wasn't a side project, because maybe that could have kept going!

you were too good for Van Halen, Gary.

As usual, the public didn't get your work with Van Halen and didn't get it with Extreme either.

That's what I was gonna say. His voice was too good for Van Halen. I haven't seen Slipkid yet, and I'm planning to.

Uhm... these lyrics are "so so"....
I know you know they're enchanting, instead.... ;-))).

In this VH album, I also like the lyric of Josephina.

You know, by the time you joined VH, Eddie looked like your grandfather. I watched this video on youtube where you guys are having this interview and, for all the time of it, I can't listen to one word but watching Eddie smoking behind your head and wondering if he's about to use it as his ashtray. You look too young, disoriented and intimidated, next to him....
Not that I don't enjoy to touch the soft, vulnerable skin of the wild, stage animal, once in a while, but... but next to Nuno you just look in the right place. He's a funny guy and his jokes are perfect to balance out that kind of seriousness you carry in all your expressions ;-).

Btw, I also really like the lyric of Sunrise, in Saudades de Rock. The lyric but not the music, though, 'cause it disturbs the images of the lyric. For me, of course.

Ghost instead is a good match words/music, as well as Take Us Alive, which is sooooooo hot and sooooooo much fun!!!!

Anyway, thanks for sharing the lyrics above, Gary man ;-).

Lilly, First Class Woman ;-)

Gary,

Can you post the lyrics to "That's Why I Love You" so that we can enjoy them? Man, you rocked VH and a second album would have been good. I also love Tribe Of Judah. You have every reason to be proud of all of your accomplishments.
Peace!

Thanks fpr posting the lyrics. I am older and was very happy when I heard you were going to join VH. I was sad too, because I am an Cherone/Extreme lover and hoped for a reunion. I found an old publicity picture you signed for me in Dallas at some club., if I remember right, it was a CD signing party. You were on the radio that night too for the Dallas Rock radio station. You were charming.

Y'know Gary, true VH fans like myself (20+ years) don't like change.......but then came you! Thank you for YOU. You went where Sammy wouldn't go, you went where Diamond Dave wouldn't go. I saw you in Syndney with VH for THE FIRST TIME and I stood and applauded you on your efforts. I have been an Extreme fan for FOREVER, I love you, Nuno & the whole nuclear...it even stretched to Suze & her Baby Animals (who I will see in 2 weeks)...ROCK is a soul and I am so glad you are a part of it. As Freddie said "Spread your little wings"......... you just keep on rockin', Gaz xxooxx
