Interesting thing has happened in the many months since the last issue: Our daily visitor count has risen steadily. We are seeing visitors from all over the world. I attribute this to the quality of people that NeoAztlan has profiled up until this point. It's an affirmation of our mission which is to profile important and relevant artists by bringing out the human being in them and issue strong critical viewpoints on their work.
There's not enough of it in the art world, as I understand it. Well-known software developer Zed Shaw describes the commodification of his business using this quote: "I demand all of your creativity, yet trust none of your judgment." Well, artists do have judgements and feelings about their work. Interestingly enough, I've found that artists that have bought heavily into the commodification of their work actually choose not to reveal their thoughts or judgements about their work or art in general, in some cases.
Regular NeoAztlan contributor Kate Green travels to New York next week to meet with Daniel J. Martinez for an interview that will be published at NeoAztlan. The interview is the result of months of courtship between NeoAztlan and Martinez who was skeptical at first, but finally began to understand NeoAztlan. It counts as one of NeoAztlan's biggest successes to date.
More interactive redesign of the site is also in the works.
Stay tuned…
