I was excited to be asked to take part in the Rhode 2 Africa Series by Reza Clifton, Rhode to Africa Director and Producer...
I've always felt so far from my family's Cape Verdean roots as I was born in the U.S.A. and had a totally different experience than anyone in my immediate family. Taking part in the series allows me to look at those roots and see how the experience translates in my music.
The R2A Concert Series will begin in October (2008), featuring live and recorded music by artists, bands, poets, and DJ's who are Africans living locally or regionally in RI or elsewhere in New England.
The concerts will happen every Sunday in October, while the Podcast series will consist of 4 thirty-minute conversations with community members and musicians performing at the concerts on
WRIU. It is part of
Rhode Island Council for the Humanities' Freedom Festival, a collaborative series of events scheduled for October.
I recorded my podcast last Tuesday and I'll be performing at Firehouse 13
41 Central St, Providnece, RI on October 26th
