Demolished – Defleshing The Innocent
Surely you can’t miss «Defleshing The Innocent» (what an apt title) if you are into brutal and groovy American death metal sliced with some mid-paced (Bolt Thrower) parts as well. Even if you can not really talk about the highlights of innovation here, you cannot deny that our land-mates deliver this kind of Six Feet Under meet Obituary like music very well. First because the playing is flawless and the song-construction efficient enough to make your head bang from the first to the last notes. With obvious inspirations in the States, Demolished can confidently hold its own with the above mentioned references. The impressive bass / drums frameworks, groovy riffing and guttural vocal works are deadly serious in both delivery and intent to smash your skull into liquid. Debauchery’s last full length was to my ears somewhat of a disappointment, «Defleshing The Innocent» is my cure.

The Belgian scene has recently lost some true underground jewels, especially Suhrim (and in this context, it's funny how the first words on this album are "Unleash The Fury"). But we may feel somewhat comforted by the rise of new bands that intend to carry on the death metal vibe. Demolished is one of those upcoming acts, that put its mark on the metal map with the release of the debut album.
"Defleshing The Innocent" is a six course menu that you'll want to scoff right down, granted that you have a concrete stomach. What's more, it's prepared grandmother's way (and yes, by that I mean old school... too far fetched?). Seriously now, Demolished boils down to what you could call relentless, and heavy. The band's style inclines towards the generic, but the catch is in the brutally swinging rhythm. If you don't tap a finger or nod your head to this one even once, you shouldn't be listening to any music at all. Add to that the lack of breathing room, the pushing, bulldozing drive coming forth from bass, drum and vocals alike, and the technical sidesteps. Only the leads tend to sound uncertain, almost improvised. Other than that, however, you have a satisfied listener right here. Recommended if you're ready to get overrun by this slab of intense, growling death metal.

Demolished is a fairly new death metal band from Belgium. They formed in 2005 and are now releasing their first album "Defleshing The Innocent". This cd contains 6 songs that one can label as old school death metal with just that bit of extra brutality and I must admit that the concept realy works out great. The old school sound of guitar and vocals always sounds great to me and the musicians are technical enough to make it interesting but aren't playing to technical to make it boring for an old school fan like me. We get pounding drums without the constant blastbeats to support the great riffing and the old schoolish grunt accompanied with the occasional scream. If I have to say anything bad about this album is that it really just is a bit to short. Even though I rather have a short good album than a longer one with the same amount of good songs and some additional fillers 25 minutes just isn't long enough to me, but hey that's why they invented the repeat button right? To all the old school death metallers out there: support your underground and go buy this, you won't regret it !

Eigen Beheer, 2009 ....Peer, een veredeld gehucht in het Belgische Limburg. Het oord van verderf waar Demolished zich schuilhield. In de verleden tijd gesproken, want de band heeft net zijn debuut uit (een echte release, geen demo voor Demolished). Defleshing the Innocent heet het onding. Rara, welk genre brengt men voort? Inderdaad, behoorlijk brute death metal. Gaat uw gang.....Adjustment of the Face smijt meteen alle fragiele ramen aan diggelen met een opgefokt doch dof klinkend death metal roffel en beuk nummer. Ik las Six Feet Under, ik denk eerder aan Immolation, ook al zit de boosaardige groove van die eerste band wel degelijk ingebakken in deze barbaarse quiche.....Een realistisch drumgeluid, een rauw en naar longemfyseem klinkend vocaal geluid en catchy riffs maken dit een fijn plaatje. Snel voorbij, dat wel, maar zo steekt het ook niet tegen. Na drie luisterbeurten ken je de volgorde van de nummers al. De beste Belgische nieuwkomer van het eerste trimester van dit jaar. Puik werk Peren!....Score: 80/100....----------

DEMOLISHED – DEFLESHING THE INNOCENT

From the black depths of Peer, appears a new wind through the renowned Belgian deathmetal scene. Demolished started in mid 2005 and kept kicking asses after many line-up changes. Their SIX FEET UNDERish downright approach to deathmetal deserved them the nickname “Pounding deathmetal”. And pounding is exactly what Demolished’ music does. With a wide variety of brutal riffs and drumpatterns this full-length is done before you even noticed that this is one fine piece of deathmetal.....
The opener says it all, they’ve come to break your jaw and I’m sure that’s what happens when you witness these guys live and start to get into the action.
Flashing solo’s and brutal vocals (Voices from the depths) show us that this band lacks no musical skills whatsoever. From the ashes even manages to catch the listeners attention for a little over 5’30” and the whole album never seems to fail.
But as much as no person is perfect, no band is perfect either. For a full-length 25 minutes are just too short and this would’ve been better labelled as being a mcd. It makes us crave for more on the other hand, so in that respect there’s no harm done either.

Hm, ja, diese Belgier. Auch dort wächst die Szene unheimlich und auch Demolished ist ein Part dieses Szene. Die Burschen gründeten sich im Jahre 2005 in Limburg, hatten aber alle schon vorher in anderen Bands gezockt, so soll es sein. Das Qunitett bietet uns natürlich Death Metal und das ist das, was Papa von ihnen hören möchte. Der Trend geht ja im Moment zum brutal Death Metal der amerikanischen Schule, aber diesen Trend machen "Demolished" nicht mit. Sie bieten uns ihre eigene Variante von Death Metal und verzichten dabei auf Blast Beats. Zwar gehen sie auch mal erhöhtes Tempo, bieten aber überwiegend Mid Tempo an. Sie verlassen sich ganz auf das Riffing und das ist schön ausgfeilt und durchdacht, so wie beim fast sechsminütigen Song namens"From the ashes". Hier bietet man einen schönen Mitgröhlrefrain an, wechselt aber auch gekonnt die Geschwindigkeit.Allerdings zieht sich der Song doch in die Länge. Man bezeichnet den Stil wohl als "Pounding Death Metal". Absolut headbangerkompatibel sin diese sechs Songs definitiv, aber so richtig viel bleiben bei diesen 25 Minuten nicht wirklich hängen. Schnorkelloser Death Metal, der aber noch steugerungswürdig erscheint.

Wat kun je allemaal verwachten van een cd met als titel: Defleshing The Innocent en een cover van een man die lichamen in stukken aan het hakken is? Juist! Niets meer en niets minder dan een flinke pot onvervalste death metal!
De leden van Demolished hebben in het verleden allemaal al een hoop
ervaring opgedaan bij andere bands en zouden daardoor met hun debuut
wel eens goed hard de scene omver kunnen blazen.
Demolished werd in 2005 opgericht onder de naam Hybrid. In de drie jaren die daarop volgden was de band nog niet echt stabiel en waren er dus een aantal wisselingen in de line-up, ook vond in die tijd de naamsverandering plaats.
Tot juni 2008, toen Jelle (bass) zich bij de band voegde en zorgde voor een stabiele line-up. En drie maanden later zaten ze al in de studio om te werken aan hun eerste album, Defleshing The Innocent, wat deze maand het levenslicht zag.
Eigenlijk zou je bij albums als Defleshing The Innocent een review volledig in hoofdletters moeten schrijven, zodat alleen het aanzicht van de tekst al genoeg zegt over het album. Het werkje is namelijk behoorlijk bruut geworden en blaast wat mij betreft alle releases van 2009 tot nu toe volledig weg. Dat de bandleden geen pubers meer zijn en al jarenlang ervaring hebben uit andere bands is ook direct te horen. Alle instrumenten, inclusief de zang klinken maximaal, maar zonder dat het album onnodig hard of slap van stof wordt. De nummers worden goed opgebouwd en zijn, voor zover mogelijk binnen de brutaldeathmetal, afwisselend. Razende solo's en moordende tempowisselingen vliegen je om de oren terwijl zanger Jeroen Driesen zijn smerige grunts er doorheen gooit. Van echt sterkte teksten moet Demolished het niet hebben, meermaals op het album komt er gewoon een zware "IEEEEEE!!!!" langs. Maar zulke dingen horen er nu eenmaal bij en zorgen ervoor dat het hele zaakje lekker snel mee te brullen is. Het enige dat jammer is aan Defleshing The Innocent is, is dat het maar 25 minuten duurt en dat het dus al voorbij is voordat je er erg in hebt. Maar zo iets geeft wel meer zin in een vervolg op dit album. Wat mij betreft krijgen ze het groene licht voor een deel twee.

Demolished is het beste te vergelijken met een band als Six Feet Under, maar dan met wat meer afwisseling. Simpelweg een aanrader dus voor alle deathmetal fans. Cd's zijn uitsluitend verkrijgbaar op concerten en via e-mail, dus mocht je interesse hebben dan heb je nu ook direct een goede reden om ze live eens te checken.
