The River and Martha
(Lyrics)

In a world that wears us down until we scream for salvation
Martha is all alone confined in her prison
And as her eyes meet walls doors close around her
For all those vanished faces she feels no remorse,oh no

The constant call of thuding waves is lost in confusion
As each state and every race adds its contribution
To the swirling mass of murmurings that surrounds me on each side
All my mother ever wanted was a chance to let things slide

And now her mother sleeps down deep in the riverbed
Entwined with the corpse of her son the water gathered not afar
And she thinks of all the others that she pushed beneath the waves
She now sees that all the stolen money are unable to bring her a smile

The water will roll them together, burry them side by side
The evening breeze will bring them a slight scent of delight
Can anything be stronger than a daughter’s despair,
Can anything be stronger than a daughter’s despair
Even though her brother slumbers deep, her life still ain’t fair
