... and the temperature feels just fine!

Blogging is such an interesting concept.  I've been wanting to try it for some time.  It's different from a journal, where you can safely write down each and every neurotic thought, comfortable in the knowledge that no one will ever see it... or, if somehow they do, that you can deny it... I think of "Harriet the Spy," one of my favorite childhood books, where the marvelous Harriet jots down each and every bizarre thought in her little notebook, and what happens when her friends find it and read what she's said about them... a must-read, even if you are an adult.

But here, you're writing journal-like entries with the knowledge that someone, at some time, IS going to actually read it.  So I'll leave my most neurotic thoughts to my private journal, which accepts me for who I am; I'll consider this more like a letter to a dear, unknown reader who might be a friend... at least, a myspace friend.

Speaking of friends... it's Myspace, it's "my space," we can do whatever we want with our spaces, to a degree -- what energy we want to put out there, what energy we'd like to draw in.  So far, I've reconnected with real-life friends and acquaintances, and met some truly nice new people -- and people whose music I really like and may never have heard if not for myspace.

I try to leave a nice comment for anyone who was kind enough to put in a friend request, and appreciate when people take time to leave me feedback as well.  Otherwise, I'm not really sure of the point.  To be a "friend-collector"?  I guess there's nothing wrong with that, but I'm hoping to keep my space at least a LITTLE "real."

I don't like the idea of "denying" anyone "friendship," but if you're mostly naked, consider Satan your best friend, love to whip and be whipped, have scary images of death all over your page... well, please don't take it personally, but we probably don't have much in common.  I respect your right to be whoever you want to be, and I hope you'll respect my right for going where I please as well.

Finally, I like the idea of using my space to introduce visitors to new musical discoveries... and so I'm going to "mix up" my Top Friends every now and then, just to give my new discoveries further exposure.  The people who are my real-life friends and mentors know who they are; and so I hope people don't mind seeing new faces from time to time; it just means I've found someone else whose music I think you should check out.
