The MICHIGAN PALACE was a well-known Downtown Detroit
Rock and Roll venue in the early 70's.
I'm trying to compile a complete list of big-name performers who played there.
I was told to talk to Benny of "Benny and the Jets" who used to run the place, but I haven't had the opportunity to speak to him.
If anyone knows anything, please help me out.
Thanks.
See 'ya,
Carl

I also remembered that one of the Kiss shows had former Move player Roy Wood's Wizzard as the opening act. Larry

Carl, I hope to see your work at the Russell this weekend. Benny from the jets father owned the Palace. If you ever see the movie 8 Mile, there is a scene that shows the ceiling of the Palace. It is now a parking lot. Imagine that!! geri

HI just came across this page very cool

Yep my Dad owned the Palace and like some of the posts mentione there where some cool times thee ... New York Dolls opened the room 9-22-73 ... Kiss played there first gig there, BTO too .. that Sly show was cool! He had such a bad reputation at the time HE had to put up $10,000 garontee that he would show up and perform, he did it was cool ... Carl did a great job on the Palace poster I am very glad he took the time to make that poster happen

David Bowie also played there after his Diamond Dogs era. I saw Kiss and Rush on the same bill once If I recall correctly. Years later I had a friend that worked downtown and we were going to go somewhere together. He suggested we meet by his work and I could park my car in his company lot. When I drove in I almost got sick because I found myself inside the Michigan Palace. What a tragedy. Larry
