Who Gives Kudos:

Wednesday, September 07, 2005
So here we are sitting in the aftermath of our break-up, which feels a little like New Orleans right now, (I probably shouldn't be joking about that place).

Gavin, Vic, Josh, and myself are all completely bummed.  We don't have a band and the house that we all lived in is being vacated this month, and we all have to find new placed to live.  What sucks the worst about this is to see the MASSIVE amounts of people say things like "this sucks, I was looking forward to this bands new release and 'On' is one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time".  We've all put in large amounts of energy, time, and money into this band, and at the point where we thought we were getting somewhere, one of us didn't feel the same.  People change, what can you do?

Before joining this band, I was one of the people in the crowd that said "wow, this band is so awesome, I can't wait until they get their chance and break out of california".  I can't believe that I was able to be a part of somthing so awesome.  I wasn't in the band for a long time, but anyone in this band will tell you that we were in the middle of writing this bands best songs to date.  Being able to say that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand straight up, because I was at least a small part of it.

I hope at least for the future I can say that I drew a little bit of influence in my own personal writing styles from this band.  Despite all that's happened, Ryan has been a big influence in the way I see the music industry, song writing, and overall talent in other bands.  I've always been a pretty big critic when it comes to other bands, and I have a good understanding now of why I've always been a little more critical of music than alot of my friends.

The future?  Who knows.  We've all got things on our plates, we'll just see what happens.  If Staring Back has a last show, I won't be a part of it.  I've seen alot of people ask this question, and there's at least MY answer.  I don't think any of us plan on fading away or going to any sort of college to pursue a career in anything other than music, so we'll see everyone around, at some point I'm sure.

Take care of yourselves and be awesome to eachother.

Jason

This really BLOWS! I don't know where I got your music from but I just found a few of your songs buried in the mass that is my iPod and I absolutely loved them. Then I was totally ready to get into you guys and I read this :(    No kudos.

hey jason,
this is oliver from punk76.com - germany.
Steve from Lobster once gave me your release. "ON" just rocks. Recently I saw, that Ryan Mendez, who played in your band, I think, plays in Yellowcard now. That´s strange somehow.
Is it right, that the band split up, cause your singer left?
Man, I feel sorry for you all. It sucks, that you need to find a new place to live. Can´t you stay at your parents house?
Sometimes good times break up. Buck Wild, which was one of my favourite bands, broke up too. Bummer.
Anyway-
What about Ryan? I think he left to leave to collegde. Did he ever thought of returning to the mic?
Lemme know.
Greetings from Germany and damn, REUNITE.
Oliver, 30 years, Germany.

Ryan was just a cog in the wheel. A good cog, but get a NEW cog and I'll see you at your next SHOW! (Because you're ALL very talented.)

The album lives on...

I remember when I worked with yan Mendez at the City of Santa Barbara Parking - we would share songs n' stuff. He was a cool guy. Staring Back rules. It also reminds me of when I played in the band Brightlife with Nick Rucker (the first drummer of Staring Back) Reed Calhoun (now in Rock Kills Kid) Tim Lopez (now in Plain White T's) and Shawn Daily (now in Rock Kills Kid as well) Willie from the band Windsor ... and now Ryan Mendez is in Yellowcard... congrats to him even though it's tough to beat "On"
