The days of knights in shinning armor are well past. In these days if you are a damsel in distress you had better know how to beg, borrow, steal, barter, conjole, flirt, fight, or coax your way out of trouble because Gowain and Lancelot aren't generally going to ride in on their charger and slay the dragon.
However while the knights are gone the concept of chivalry isn't entirely dead. Traveling home with my Mom from a brief shopping trip I experienced kindness from a series of strangers. First, it was the older couple in the car that passed who gesticulated concern and aggitation so well that I decided maybe I had better pull my vehicle over. Then, having just done so...before I could even get out and assess what may have concerned the other vehicle a gentleman had already pulled over and was out of his vehicle and ready to help.
Sure enough, I had a flat tire. Now, as a modern lady I was already openning the wheel well and mentally preparing to change the tire. This isn't my first flat and I rather think it won't be the last. It was completely unnecessary. The gentleman stepped in and changed the tire, declined any monetary compensation, and followed us to town placing his vehicle in the way between us and potential danger to make sure that we arrived at the local Wal Mart to get the tire fixed. (The spare was a donut in case you are wondering.) All this and we never did get his name. So, if you live in Clinton, and you happen to see this... If you see a tall, thin man with greying hair and a tatoo on his right arm that drives a navy blue Ford F-series pickup, let him know that we sincerely appreciate his help. Thanks to all who helped.
