Hullo!

I hope ya’ll well and life is treating you good?

As you know last year we had our first gig night held at Living Word Christian Centre. At this free event and we had four bands and a crowd of over 70 people! All the bands were amazing, coming to perform for free. The bands included Our Future Glory, Latonic and Track 9. All involved had a really good night and seemed enthusiastic about having another one in the future.

That time has now arrived!

The reason why I’m contacting you is that I want you to play! This year we also have something resembling a budget. So we’ll be giving the artists who perform something to cover their expenses and travelling costs. Please remember that this is a charity event though, so don’t expect a fee for playing ;)

The event will be on Saturday 1st August 2009, and will be held at Living Word Christian Centre, Stock Street, Paisley - this is to keep costs of the event down. Whilst the event is held at a church it is by no means a Christian event. We’re just wanting to provide an environment where local young people can see some great music for free.

The gig night will also be part of something much bigger. During that week LWCC will be running their summer youth mission, in which young people will stay at the church all week doing various community projects - such as clean-up efforts, visits to old folks homes, running youth clubs and a kids club...

The Beat - Community Arts Project is something that I started as part of my creative project for my honours year of Media studies, at Paisley University. The mission statement for the project is “What can a generation do when they’re bored?”...the aim is to offer young people a chance to be part of something. To empower them by offering them opportunities in creative projects and activities, of which many of them won’t have had the chance to do before. For instance, for three years we have run free summer Hip-Hop and street dance classes and, of course, given many young people the chance to take part in running large events, like the gig night.

So, if you are interested in taking part in this event please contact me as soon as you can! And if you have any questions please get in touch.

Thanks,
