In this respect they had adapted themselves to the very condition of the plague, all the more potent for it's mediocrity. None of us was capable any longer of an exalted emotion; all had trite, monotonous feelings. "It's high time it stopped," people would say, because in time of calamity the obvious thing is to desire its end, and in fact they wanted it to end. But when making such remarks, we felt none of the passionate yearning or fierce resentment of the early phase; we merely voiced one of the few clear ideas that lingered in the twilight of our minds. The furious revolt of the first weeks had given place to a vast despondency, not to be taken for resignation, though it was none the less a sort of passive and provisional acquiescence.

I admit, this made me laugh a little, in a sad kind of way, when the knowledge of its truth strikes a chord. On so many levels, on so many levels. This slow burning sensation that is consuming so much, of so many, creating so little room left in the minds of small minded people. However, in the smallest spark, lies the capacity for great flames to ignite the driest of deadlands. It is circular. It can come back around. Not to lose hope completely. What for? What then? Sit down? Say nothing? What for? Creation will continue. It must.

don't really like Camus nor "The Plaue" but I can see what the quote can be used for

I see that this is applicable to the condition of society today. However, I for one find that the passionate yearning inside myself is still intact. I am gloriously capable of exalted emotions. My spirit remains true and strong. My will has not caved to the plague. I remain free among those whom the powers that be would seek enslave. Body, soul, heart, mind.. I stand free. And I suspect that the character of my spirit can be found in others, including you, Mr. Murdoch. I found my salvation in a greater love. My spirit cannot be suppressed or silenced... you?  Thank you for your heart. Thank you for your voice.
