So this past weekend was just full of surprises...
Friday night - 7:00pm
We were setting up for the Sean Tyas show and I managed to step on not one, but two rusty nails...one in each foot. Good times considering I hadn't had a tetanus shot in at least 15 years. My left foot was not so bad, nail only went in about 1/4 inch, but my right foot landed on the other nail with my full weight and went all the way in....hurt like a fucking bitch.
I know that this is pretty serious and can lead to health issues, however there's only about 30 minutes before I'm supposed to be at the airport to pick up Sean...no time to go to the emergency room. I try calling one of the hospitals here in town to at least get some general information on how bad the situation is, how long I can wait before I absolutely have to go get a shot, and what symptoms I should be looking for to determine if it's getting worse. Well thanks to the fucking sue happy legal system here in the United States of fucking America, the nurse can't give me any information unless I'm a patient because of liability reasons. So I call Joe and have him hop on webmd.com since he's still at home to look up some information for me, which was somewhat helpful, and then I also called my mom who called her doctor after freaking out because I hurt myself.
Turns out you can wait about 12~15 hours at the most before you absolutely have to get the tetanus shot, enough time for me to do the show, take care of Sean, and then get to the ER first thing in the morning.
Ok, fast forward to about 11:30....Josh is on the stage making some adjustments to the mixing board or setting something up or whatever. He blacks out and falls off the stage backwards landing on his tail bone and right wrist. He gets up, says he feels ok, finishes up what he was doing and then walks out to his car in the parking lot and blacks out again....falling on his right hand again.
So at this point both of us are pretty seriously injured and the night is barley half way done....lol.
Ok, skip to the end of the night, which would now be...
Saturday morning - 4:30am
I take Sean back to his hotel, run back to the club to drop off Josh's car, help tear down the sound/gear, and then get a ride home. I take all my stuff up stairs and then hop on my lame ass scooter, because my car got totaled last week....but thats another story, and ride myself up to the emergency room. I bears mentioning that at this point, about 6:00am my wife was fine at home...remember that for later.
Anyway, I get to the ER, they check me in and I end up getting the tetanus shot. Did I mention that tetanus shots hurt like fucking hell? Ya, they do....my arm is still sore right now (Sun night), feels like someone beat on my arm with a baseball bat. After I get the shot they keep for for observation for about 20~30 minutes to make sure I don't have a reaction to the shot....which guess what, I do.
Oh joy.
So they have to give me some other stuff to counteract the reaction, bla bla bla ...and a simple tetanus shot turns into a two hour ordeal. They finally decide I'm going to be ok and release me about 8:00. So I hop on my suck ass scooter and start the trip home, thank god it's only about four blocks to my apartment from the hospital. I am really looking forward to getting home and falling into bed because at this point I've been up for about 30 hours.
I get home, open the front door and see my wife sitting in a chair with her head back and her face, hair, and clothes covered in blood.
Turns out during the time I was in the ER she tripped over the dog who got underfoot and broke her nose on a table. I try calling some friends to get us a ride back to the ER but no one is answering, it's too early in the morning on a weekend. So I carry her downstairs, get her situated on the scooter, and ride her to the ER. Since it's a head injury, the hospital has to do a MRI and a few other scans/X-Rays and several tests to make sure there is no hemorrhage in her brain that could be more serious. Thankfully, the only injury is the broken nose.
We finally get out of the ER about noon, hop on the scooter for the ride home, and I manage to get some sleep before having to go back to the club.
I should also mention that during the time I was in the ER with my wife Josh called me from another ER by his house, turns out his wrist is broken and will be in a cast for 8 weeks.
Saturday night
I get to the club and get set up and then mostly hang out in the water bar till my set since my foot and arm are killing me. It's kind of a slow night because theres a show at another club across town, but the people that are there are into it and having a good time. I'm thinking, "Ok, at least tonight has been uneventful"...lol, silly me. About 15 minutes before my set was over my Final Scratch amp dies...dead silence on the dance floor. Had to switch over to CD's for the last few tracks. At first I thought it was maybe the software, but it was still functioning...so ya, my scratch amp is hosed.
The only high point of the weekend was meeting Sean Tyas and getting to hear him play. He did a fantastic job and played a really great set. He's also a really nice guy...down to earth, laid back, very easy going.
I always enjoy meeting DJ's who don't have the rock star attitude and are there for the right reasons, Sean definitely fits into that category. The crowd turnout wasn't as strong as I had hoped for because another club threw a free party just to fuck with us, but Sean was completely professional and gave 110% during his entire set. Everyone I talked to after the show commented on how much they enjoyed his set....tons of energy the entire time.
So anyway, it's now Sunday night about 9:00pm and theres only 3 more hours before this weekend is officially over. I'm just waiting for a plane to fall out of the sky into my apartment and kill me.....which given how I feel at this point wouldn't be all bad.
Here's a pic of my wife in the ER, they had started to clean her up at this point...there was more blood before.
