Thank you for taking the time to send me your kind words of support.  I
appreciate hearing from individuals who care about the future of California.

I am working hard to make state government more responsive and responsible to
the people of California.  Since I took office, California has pulled back from
the brink of bankruptcy, improved its credit rating and had a balanced budget
without raising taxes. My Administration also has cut California's structural
budget deficit by two-thirds, from $16.5 billion to $4.7 billion. 

To foster a healthier economy, we reformed workers' compensation and attracted
new businesses to our state.  These efforts have helped create more than 500,000
new jobs. I am also committed to building a better future for California with
proposals to safeguard our levees, create affordable housing opportunities and
build new roads and schools.  And in my proposed 2006-07 budget, California is
spending more on education than at any time in the history of our state.

My work for the Californians of tomorrow also includes preserving our
environment and natural resources.  I established the Sierra Nevada Conservancy,
the nation's largest conservancy at 25 million acres.  Our state leads the
nation with goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and I initiated
energy-saving and cost-reducing programs to help Californians save electricity
and gasoline. 

Again, thank you for your words of encouragement.  Your willingness to add your
voice to the civil discourse will help me ensure a better future for our great
state.
