Current mood:  curious

Midfield maestro Michael Doyle tells us how he could have been playing another type of football, why he cant stand Manchester United and trust us you'd want him in your team for a sports round of a pub quiz!

What TV programme do you have to watch?

At the moment I'm completely hooked on The Contender on itv4. I've always been a boxing fan and I love sports programmes and I've watched every episode this season and the first one to. I think forbes looks like he might win it this time.

What Five Bands/Artists would be the first on your I-Pod?

Ive just brought the new razorlight album and that's pretty good and I like the kooks as well. I'd have a bit of Oasis and Cast on there and I also like my Irish stuff as well. I don't think anybody would have heard of her but I quite like Kristy Moore.

Best Film You Have Seen Recently?

I went to the cinema recently to watch Miami vice and that was ok. A load of the lads went to see it and they all thought it was terrible but I didn't think it was to bad. I Quite want to go see You, Me & Dupree that looks funny.

You're out for a meal – what cant fail to please you?

I always seem to go for pasta but I guess if there wasn't a game coming up id go for a Chinese or a nice steak.

And you'd wash it down with?

To be honest I like to drink coke with a meal. You can have a nice burp and then carry on!

If money was no object which car would you drive?

I'm not massively into cars but if money was no object id probably drive a Porsche or Ferrari or something like that.

Do you regularly buy any newspapers or magazines?

I buy 4-4-2 every month and if im down the shops on a Sunday ill buy the news of the world to catch up on latest celebrity gossip.

Do you read books?

Yeh, I like autobiographies and ive read quite a few by footballers. Ive just finished Steven Gerrard's  and its one of the better ones I've read to be honest. I was impressed with it.

Any Unusal Hobbies?

Nothing unusual. I play golf whenever I can and when I go home in the summer I might play a bit of hurling or gaelic football.

Do you use the internet? What sites do you always go to?

Yeah but there's not  too many sites that I go on regularly and I don't really use email that often because I can never be bothered to give out my address.

Got any hi-tech gadgets?

I've got an I-pod and a PSP. I play a lot of tiger woods on that. I've also got a portable cd player that I take to away games.

Which current sports star do you respect the most?

Steven Gerrard is definitely the best player in his position in the world and I'm not just saying this because im a Liverpool fan. I've also got a lot of respect for the lads who play Gaelic football and hurling back home as well. These guys who work long hours, five days a week in there normal jobs and then train for 4 nights a week as well. They then play their games in front of crowds of up to 80,000 and they don't get paid for it. They could quite easy go on strike and demand some of the money but they don't because they love the game so much.

What other sports do you really enjoy?

I am a bit of a sports billy and I will watch any sports on tv. I love golf and I like all the major sporting events as well like the Olympics or the six nations.

Is there a sport you would love to try but cant because you're a footballer?

I'm very happy with what I do but if I hadn't made it as a footballer I'd like to think I could have played Gaelic football to a pretty high standard. I still like to have a game but only when I go home in the summer because its very physical and there is too much chance of getting injured.

Which club do you/did you support?

I was a massive Liverpool fan when I was growing and I still like them and hate man united – that's just how it is where I come from. I get to watch Liverpool very occasionally now if they play at villa or something like that. Id like to see them more but its to far to go on a Sunday when we have played on a Saturday.

You've finished training for the day – what will you do with the rest of your afternoon?

I get home, take my dogs bonnie and butch out for a long walk so they can have a good run around. Then I'll get back, stick the TV on and flick through the channels and pretty much just relax.

Did you go on holiday last summer?

I went for a nice break in the canary islands but I spend a lot of my summer back home in Ireland. I like to spend time with my family and all my old friends who im still in touch with.

You've got a day off – explain your ideal way of spending the next 24 hours?

If the weather is nice I might go for a game of golf. If not maybe a bit of shopping. Just to get out of the houses really.

Are you much of a clothes man – if so, where do you like to shop?

I like my clothes although you probably wouldn't think so to look at me! If im going shopping I'll pop into Leamington where I live or maybe Birmingham.

Is there anything you always buy when you don't need them? (eg. Trainers, t-shirts, jeans)

I always seem to buy trainers I've got loads of pair I don't think ive ever worn.

What are your favourite football boots?

I go for old school boots normally. Im wearing pumas at the moment but I used to like Adidas World Cups.
