….my dog wanted to go out. It's impossible to ignore her because she wags her tail and if you don't see her wagging her tail, she snorts like a pig which makes her sneeze and of course, then she has your attention.
I can't just open the door and let her out, nooooooo, I have to hook the cable to her collar because we don't have a fence, so THAT means I have to go outside.
I stand in front of the glass doors with my robe and pj's on, dreading walking on the snow on the deck and from the look of it, my wind chimes tell me there is a breeze that goes along with it and a little bit of frosting on top. Great. I figure it's 180 degrees below zero.
I know I'll be chilled to the bone, but the poor dog is sneezing so I have to brave it.
So we go outside and the cold blasts me just the way I knew it would. My bones were making shivering clacking noises.
I help snorty dog down the steps so she doesn't slip and go back to the deck to run in the house and wait for her. But that didn't happen. For some reason, I stopped to look at the stars even though I had clenched my white robe around my neck and my ears were, I imagine, a nice shade of pinkish red.
Then I heard 'THE SOUND'. I know that sound and it's a couple of miles away.
I listen, my ears go up like a wolf. I know I hear it. The sound shifts as it changes directions and then it's silent but I wait. I forget it's cold outside….and I hear the sound again getting closer. I begin to smile.
I forget about snorty dog who is sniffing in the leaves for whatever.
AND THEN…….the sky exploded over my head with sixty to seventy geese, making their sound and flying in their groups of V shapes….not only were they over my house, but directly over my head!
I threw my arms up and twirled around, my robe flapping behind me like angel wings. My heart soared and I wanted to go with them.
They are gone. It's cold again. 'C'mon dog, let's go in.'
Thank you geese. Thank you.
