This blog is open to friends and "not friends (yet,) in the hopes of a well rounded discussion on varied topics. Please respect the thoughts therein and do not make me beat you about the head and neck for foul play.

I will leave no links nor will I actually hop into this conversation until the weekend - (Until then my brain is owned by CSI.)  I want you to think, consider, contemplate and expound all on your own...

I have seen blogs, news articles, books and have read several compelling shows as well.  I am currently, re-reading a series of books by a fantastic author who - well, like I said, I am not going to bias this until I am ready...

The so-called "Great Debate," of The Theory of Evolution (Evolutionists)  or Intelligent Design (Creationists.)  Now before you take a deep breath, turn red and get ready to pound the keyboard and I know none of my readers have a temper   just stop and think first.

I know most of you will have a very good idea where you fall in the thinking of what I am going to ask you and you will have solid back-up for your belief. Good. What I would like to know, if you wouldn't mind sharing...

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IN?

Evolution - That We were sparked from the bogs of life into creation by "something otherly."

Creationism - The Intelligent Design Theory.

As I said, I will provide no links here mostly because I am short on time and I don't want to provide biased links. Find them on your own as there are tons of them out there. Visit the Creation Museum site on-line for some great detail there and you all know Mr. Darwin I presume?

READ THIS PART!

* This is NOT a debate about who believes in a better "ism."
* This is NOT a challenge to prove youre belief is better.
* This is NOT a post to make you pick one or the other, you may believe in a bit of both - I would love to hear why.
* This is most definitely not one of those top blog challenges about Christians vs Athiests...

This is simply me asking you - which idea do you feel more strongly toward?

Feel free to discuss, debate, exchange ideas and thoughts and do not worry about being harrassed about it - this is a site of free thought and free expression and if anyone here cannot play in my sandbox in that manner will be expelled and stood in the Myspace virtual corner with Tom. Don't make me come out there.

For those interested, my response/thoughts on this are on page four of the comments....

Peace and Love

Let me be the first to add a comment....to break the ice on a subject that indeed sparks more debate than any other . And besides I like to cause trouble....lol
Evolution - That We were sparked from the bogs of life into creation by "something otherly.".
Why....its simply more logical.....but I too would love to hear other opinions on the subject

I believe that Evolutionary Theory has been discredited a great deal in recent years.

I recently read an article describing how modern man, agriculture, and horticulture came together in a shockingly miniscule time frame.

Were our ancestors genetic manipulators, or was an intelligent design responsible for our extreme good fortune?

I speak of the time frame when man went from hunter-gatherer to settled communities with agriculture and domestication of animals. I believe this was about 10,000 years ago?

good start... I can probably get that number back further, but you have the timeline correct for when man got to the point of hunter/gatherer.... it's before that.... I don't want to say more and start my bias up yet ;-)

I adore randomness and insanity! They're my best friends.

I believe consciousness precedes form.

I think we are so hung up on finding the "missing link" in our evolutionary trail that we are causing its creation. I think there are many alternate existences and how my day goes is occasionally determined by what side of the bed I get up on.

I think any one path is much less than the whole picture. I think there is room enough in the universe for as many paths as we can imagine.

I think we are all just dreaming.

Wasn't that a frightening little peek into my head?

:p

Isn't there a theory that we are altering the development of the Universe simply by observing it?

That is mind boggling.

Howdy ~C~...

Ya know I gotta be contrary and not go by the rules of the game...picking one over the other. I think you know that I ponder this whole thing with sincere passion, both evolution and creation. This deep impaired thinking as brought me to believe that both evolution and creation are right and both are wrong.

Over the past two weeks I have been struggling as I try to write what the heck has come into my mind about environment, evolution, creation and the Earth as a living organism. as usual in my wee personal reality I think I made some grand leap in figuring it all out. The parameters imposed by science and religion that contain two very different beliefs of origin do not allow for outside of the box thinking because in either realm it would constitute heresy.

I don't know that what has come to my mind in regards to this topic is so very different from what others have concluded, nor that it is truly my own original thought. In considering these two basic tenets of origin I have seen that there was something very, very wrong with the human species as a general whole...in comparison with the rest of nature and all other life forms. What is apparent in this wrongness is the obvious disconnect between humans and the environment...the living Earth.

If I write these ideas out here it will be a short novel and Is till haven't been able to articulate it out into a blog after about 20 drafts anyway. A few notions are that in the theory of evolution it is a one way affair as species adapt to the environment...I think it is both that and the environment adapting the species, but far more than a two way affair. It is not mechanistic, nor linear from point A to Z.

Creation theory has merit...but I think it also has multiple influences one being consciousness and another being intervention...whether that follows religious beliefs or not is a whole other matter.

We have gone from being Earth-Centered to being Self-Centered...almost a complete disconnect from earth resulting in our consuming the host body. This can be tracked back a few thousand years and identified as to what was responsible for the shift, well, several things were and have been responsible for maintaining the diversion...focusing the attention of the human species away from the Earth. The answer is right in front of us.

One small example and then I will shut up. If we believed in reincarnation 'knowing' we would return to another life...life after life...there would, presumably, be a greater sense of responsibility in regards to our interaction with the Earth. When most belief that they are bound for Heaven or damned to Hell...or just die and cease to exist...we merely bemoan our transgressions on the Earth that will have to be redeemed by future generations...except we may now be the ones who have to deal with the bad karma. Maybe that doesn't make sense, but in context with the rest of what is stuck in this head...it at least makes sense to moi.

Okay...one more thing...this is what I am thinking. The Earth is a living organism...as is the Universe. We as humans are made up of all sorts of cells that work together, cooperate to create the body and brain all neatly tucked away within the environment of our membrane skin. The Earth is the same, except inside out...we...all life are like the cells in the human body existing on the surface of the planet...the environment and all life creates the body and brain of the planet. The planet would be then trying to grow, evolve, by creating the exterior body and brain in order to ascend into a higher consciousness and connect...and humans might have been intended as the catalyst in order to bridge that ascension, but instead have failed to cooperate, turned away from the Earth and into a cancer consuming the host. Even though we know this...we cannot stop it. Yet many await rescue.

The true creative force is probably beyond current comprehension...the interventionists weren't gods. But this all just my secluded and humble opinion...no offense intended.

I knew I shouldn't have commented...

Peace, Love and Light...

I believe in both. I think there was an intelligent design (which subsequently went horribly awry). "Seeds" were planted and the evolutionary process took over from there.

I can't think of the name of a sci-fi story I read in my teens that helps illustrate this. If I remember/find it, I will let you know.

To be honest with you, I really don't know what to believe. This whole subject confuses me greatly. At one time I thought that maybe we crawled out of the oceans many millions of years ago and that through the evolutionary process we came to be what we are today. Then I asked myself, if this is the case, why then if all creatures are continuously evolving, why have not monkeys or gorillas for that matter, morphed overtime into a higher life form ?

Having said that, I don't believe in spontaneous creation, like if God one day got out of bed , was inspired and created man, and women.

The only conclussion I can come up with is that our civilization as we know it, is much, much older than we have been led to believe. So our history has vanished in our past. Maybe to believe in something or a theory, we may have to stick to the Creationist idea or maybe the Evolutionist idea just so we can hold on to something. But at this moment in time, since there really is no proof for me one way or another how we came to be, I will stay neutral and wait for my death. Then maybe I will be enlighten better on the subject when I find myself in the presence of God.

I agree with civilization being MUCH MUCH older then the theory is.. much older... go as far back as we know and then go a bit further... there you will find so much, it will blow your mind away.

I do need to say though that the whole 6 day/6,000 year Earth believers is what makes many of the Creationists look bad. If they could get past that, they would be taken much more seriously.

I truly believe God Created but used the evolutionary process in that He was able to move it along at a smooth fast pace. I do also believe that when God reached a point of satisfaction He desired to have someone with whom He could share it with, (Man). Look how man has been able to gain knowledge and be creative and know that we are created in the image of God.

thank you so much for this comment.. I truly do appreciate it - because you do show that you can believe in BOTH GOD and EVOLUTION.... it doesn't have to be one box of thinking vs another... no right or wrong.. how about we just look at what we have.. be honest with the facts and go from there.. or would that put too many people out of a job?

I really thank you for this.. Brightest Blessings!

I hope you do post something soon... there are more people who do think in your mindset but are maybe too intimiadated to say so... I get so tired of seeing the endless challenges to this group or that group to prove this or that.. why? In the end, we all die... until then, we have our faith... why challenge it.. but open discussions about what we think, I like, because if done politely we all learn!

I was watching a show the other night, and they were talking about creationism vs evolution.
The problem with creationism is that they feel the earth is not as old as it really is. The theory is that the earth is only about 4,000 years old. And we all know that is a far cry from the truth.
Evolution...now I can buy that much more easily. I feel that through time, all creatures evolve into something better/different/more suited to the environment they are placed in.
And ten, there is the theory that we actually are evolved from the combination of aliens visiting the earth and helping the native inhabitants to evolve at a faster pace through technlogy and breeding.
Whew....it gets complicated, doesn't it?
