Category: Music

from my grandmother as a child I listened to endless amazing singers, from Aharon Amram, Zion Golan, Shoshana Damari, Shlomo Dachyani and Miriam Tzafri to Avner Gadasi and Ofra Chaza. The beautiful melodies and wonderful voices touched me deeply and humbled me greatly, though none as much as grandma Rachel’s… she is number one, all 4 feet of her.

It was clear to me that a girl born in Israel and raised in New York, where the Yemenite songs faded and were replaced by Joni mitchell and Paul Simon, would have to find her own way to connect to that rich place called Root...

I meditated on the old Hebrew/Yemenite lyrics, full of love and longing, of dreams unfulfilled, of pain, heat, dust and wind. I wrote new English lyrics and music, and wrapped them around the old songs like a long coat in winter. I contemplated my family’s history, their harrowing journey from Yemen to Israel, my grandfather’s travels to Africa and beyond, finally uprooting the family to the US, my own decision to follow my heart and return to Israel, and from there, to again embrace the world on the wings of song, as a young woman and later, as a mother of 2.

This never ending search for identity, for clarity, for acceptance, for love: I tried to see it through my grandmother’s eyes, through my mother’s, through my own, through my daughter’s.

The result is before you: our new album "Genes and Jeans"  (www.noasmusic.com)

I want to acknowledge the one and only Gil Dor, my best friend and musical director, for his incredible, indefatigable work on this album. Toda Gili.

Dearest Noa, I've just listened to the samples on your official website, in 2 words: pure magic!!! Your singing is at the top and the new compositions are magnificent, beautiful melodies, nuances, arrangements, everything is realized in a subtle way and sounds above all that we can listen to on the waves nowadays, I hope that the light emanating from this new album will be heard by the biggest number on Earth because Gil and you offer to the world a unique jewel! Noa, Your music raises my soul.

All the best with "Genes and Jeans" , I'm gonna buy it! ;-)))
Have a great tour, much Love sister,

Noa, I dont know how you do it but every one of your songs touches me so deeply. Although I've never been to Israel I have this longing to connect to the roots my family has there. My mother's side is yidish and russian (jewish of course) and my father's side are jews from the middle east but we are not sure what contry be cause the papers were lost :(. I was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but my heart does not belong here, your song
"Genes and jeans" is exactly how I feel. I almost cried when I heard the part " hungry, hungry to belong, to belong" you always seem to know exactly how I feel and write it perfectly into your songs. I love you Noa!!!
wishing you all the best

Dear Noa,

I don't have better words than the previous comments to describe the joy that I feel while I experience this splendid album. My wife, my sons and I are every day enriching our lives through your brilliant and evocative voice and Gil Dor colorful and suggestive arrangements. We had a strong and wonderful experience at El Palau the last 12th of April. This is the sixth concert of you that we attend, and it is the first time that the sound was like the CD! Did you enjoy my song “True hearts” that I composed 4 you? Kisses from all the family!
