A friend once told me, in reference to an album by Toshiko Akiyoshi, that
tadpoles have a relationship to music in Japanese culture because they look like notes on a staff. I have no idea if that is true or not, but it's a great image and I'll use it when I feel the urge.
So, where have all the tadpoles gone? Where is my music? Well, I've been working a lot with Dick Cravens on a project called "
Hormone Junkies" which is a guitar driven dance ensemble with thematic and conceptual connections to bands such as Talking Heads, King Crimson, YES and the Orb.
Go figure.
We've released an EP and are working on an album to be finished sometime in February. I like it all very much and, in some ways, I think it is my strongest recorded work. It is not, though, the completeness of my artistic vision. I have been working on an album myself for almost two years titled "Neologism" and I've given several indications that it was on it's way to release, but, sadly, something usually comes up and it is delayed. During that delay I often listen to the product and decide that it needs to be refashioned in some way.
Originally, the work was supposed to be industrial music only. Then, I got the idea to add some less aggressive works to make it appeal to a broader audience. Then, I realized that the two audiences were so far apart that neither would want to spend money on the others' musical type.
ARG! the narrowness of musical tastes irritates me.
So, I end up not releasing anything.
Well, maybe I will try a different approach. Anyone have any good ideas? Bits and pieces of the album in its several forms appear on my MySpace page player.
Love, Sex and Satisfaction to you all,
