As a board member of the Special Olympics International, it is such a tremendous loss having to say goodbye to our beloved founder, Eunice Kennedy Shriver. Her dynamic vision, undeniable passion for the intellectually disabled and courage to change the world will be missed on a global level.

My introduction to the world of Special Olympics was through Bobby Shriver. I was asked to contribute to the Very Special Christmas album. What Child Is This was a perfect fit to a terrific musical idea that helped expose the Special Olympics movement to the masses.

I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Mrs. Shriver on many occasions - at the world games in Japan, China, board meetings in DC and New York and I also sang for her at the Clinton White House. I even attended her 85th birthday at the Bush White House just a few years back. She was always interested in my interests, career and especially my children.

My greatest honor was portraying a mother whose son had Down's syndrome in the independent film My Brother. We had a special screening in DC that she attended with me. What an honor and what a legacy.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all the family and the entire Special Olympics movement.

its hard 2 imagine the world withput special olympics before then society seemed 2 try to hide any one with handicaps instead of letting them participate at what ever level they were capeable of and to of coarse have a liottle fun and compete

Vanessa lovey - THANK YOU for posting this Blog and letting us reply.

I was also sad to hear of the passing of such a fabulous contributor and spokesperson for the Special Olympics.

Personally as such a keen sportsman in my youth i obviously always had great interest in the Olympic Games and having such friendships with Olympic Games IOC members such as Prince Rainier of Monaco family and Princess Ann's daughter Zara i was thrilled when the PARA became a part of the greater Olympic Movement itself.

I hope the Shriver family in their collective grief look through the hurt and see the good that this lady achieved and thus - they - as well as mourn their loss also find it in them to celebrate this ladies life in their hours and days of need.

My love goes to the family especially daughter Maria and Arnie - they know !!

Thanks again Vanessa, and my love to YOU also as at sad times like these often close friends get forgotten in their hours of grief and so Please lovey, celebrate,  dont feel sad - OK

GOD BLESS SWEETHEART.

Vanessa...nice blog about the remembrance of Eunice Kennedy Shriver.  She will be missed by most of the American people, me for one, because of the outstanding efforts she put forth with her involvement of the Special Olympics.  Now she is an Angel of Glory watching down on us as we help her rest in peace.
