Well go figure.

I left Scientology over 20 years ago. I left because it wasn't really delivering what it promised, although it was hard to see that when I was involved. There's intensive and extensive group agreement about how Scientology makes you freer, more powerful, more effective, etc., and it's that group agreement which makes those myths seem real.

Scientology also cost me a lot of money (I spent around $65,000 and that's on the low side).

Finally, there were members of the "church" who were unrelenting in their belief that I needed to leave my husband -- who I love very much -- because he was no longer active in Scientology.

So I left, despite the fact that I lost nearly all my friends. (When you leave Scientology, your Scientology friends aren't allowed to talk with you anymore.) It took me two years to get beyond the sense of injustice, cruelty, and loss. But that was a long time ago.

Today, the Scientology phase of my life is a faded memory. I have friends now (several of whom are also former Scientologists), and they will remain my friends, no matter what I do, say, or think. Ironically, I'm freer than my former friends can be in Scientology. They are still paying big money on their "road to total freedom", all the while having to abide by rules of behavior which limit what they can do, say, or think. That includes who they can befriend.

Imagine my surprise, then, when I noticed a link at the bottom of one of my blogs here. The link is in support of Scientology and if you click on it, it takes you to their website.

Rather than clicking on a link that takes you to Scientology's website, I suggest you learn more about it from those who've been involved and left. Just do a Google search on "former Scientologists". Not everyone hates the organization, so the several anti-Scientology sites vary in tone. In the end, you might find Scientology is something you feel you want to try. But you'd be wise to get a rounder view of it before you venture in with eyes wide open and trusting. I'm not trying to stop you. I'm just letting you know there's more to it than what they'd like you to think.
