BaltimoreChop is proud to announce the return of The Bowmans from Brooklyn. They'll be back on Tuesday 30 September at 8 p.m. and of course it's FREE!

You may know Sarah already, from the amazing band Rasputina, and along with sister Claire, the Bowmans are making some amazing music of their own.

But here's a quick quote from Americana UK:

"The harmonies are indeed stunning, especially during unaccompanied moments in songs like 'Make It Last,' Classical influences show on 'The Kitchen Song,' where the choral purity of their voices lends a hymn like quality to the song."

..."Throughout, the songs are lifted and shaped by the twins' impeccable harmonies, which are always delicate, especially on the beautiful melancholia of "Williamsburg Bridge," but never saccarine and on a song like "Pick One Piece," can sound slightly eerie. The strength of the material and those amazing voices, which blend so seamlessly it's hard to tell where one starts and the other begins, has ensured that The Bowmans have a growing following on the New York folk scene."

If you haven't been to a show at the Chop, c'mon down to 625 Washington Blvd. near Camden Yards and find out why Baltimore Magazine named us the Best In-Store Performance Venue in town (and we've only been open a few months!).

Here's the rest of their bio:

"Launched in the mid 1980s on a state-of-the-art, fancy, high-tech, cutting edge lecture tape recorder their father soon after regretted loaning them, The Bowmans' smoldering debut album, "Chicks and Families Radio Rocks" was cut! This trademark stuffed animal community effort formed an astronomical compilation of unforgettable hits by big time recording artists Snot the Pig and Little Bear Second Brain. And they've done a lot more since then!

"With harmonies that seem to come from one astonishing voice, The Bowmans share a rare, near telepathic musical bond. The Brooklyn based "roller coaster" duo ranges from poignantly captivating to serendipitously joyful. Their music is concurrently sophisticated and imaginative, blending together the preserved vulnerability and abandoned glee of their childhood. The Bowmans deeply move and delight their audience world wide with uncanny, evocative, and unforgettable performances.

"Sweeping across a full range of passions, the cohesive debut album from The Bowmans, Far from Home, (Mother West Records) includes shattering acoustic harmony-rich ballads to heartening rock songs infused with early classical and gospel influences. The duo's sound has been compared to Gillian Welch, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, to name a few, but they are impossible to pigeonhole. Sarah and Claire Bowman have the unique intuitive connection common to twins who have performed together since youth, and because of this they are clearly always on the same musical page.

"The Bowmans are popping up on the national scene right now, ever increasing as they return from their latest European tour, thanks to the success of their recent release, "Far from Home," and the waves of enthusiastic response from new audiences. The sisters have aggressively toured together around the U.S. almost non-stop for the last three years and are circuiting a pattern around a large part of Europe as well, already arriving with high praise from press and leaving with rave reviews. Their success has largely been on a do-it-yourself basis, even now!

"The Bowmans are also big festival players! They have been a dominating presence and were exceptionally well received at CMJ, NEMO, Midwest Music Summit, Folk in der Walden (NL), Folk ver Volks (NL), the TOSCO Music Party (NC), Club Passim Campfire Festival (Boston), The Vagina Monologues (NYC), three NYC Antifolk Fests, and will be performing at the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion festival in TN this Fall.

"And music from "Far from Home" has been featured on NPR's All Songs Considered, and many major noncommercial NPR format stations nation wide, including WTMD Baltimore, WAMC Albany, WDVX Knoxville, Several Iowa Public Radio stations, along with several college radio stations in New York City and all across the US. The Bowmans are also on rotation on French, Belgian, Dutch, Swiss and German radio.

"The Bowmans have a unique sound that fits well with a variety of styles. They have supported key artists Greg Brown, Rasputina (two full tours as supporting act), JayMay, Jeff Lewis, and John Auer of The Posies. This Fall, they support legend Garnet Rogers. They are making a name for themselves both on the U.S. national and International scene, filling rooms like Joe's Pub and The Living Room in New York City and are often awarded special feature status in their gig write ups in press. A live performance from Joe's is available on You Tube compliments of Suite Spot Film Company Inc., New York, NY."

See you soon!
