Current mood:  sympathetic
We never knew  words and music would ever affect someone like this... Our thoughts are with the Matthews family..
LUST-

My hubbie passed away three weeks ago. His name was Hal Matthews and he was a wonderful musician. He played with Whitesnake for a short time... Exodus, Gibraltor, Zion, Xylynx (sp) and taught guitar at institute of music. He is the voice on the Saliva CD that says "A rock star?"

He was a very special man who has survived cancer twice... but died instantly from a massive heart attack. He left me, his wife, and our five children. He was teaching our oldest who is fourteen to play guitar. So u can imagine how this has affected him.

Anyway- oddly enough, about a couple weeks before he passed, he showed me LEFT BEHIND and the Lyrics and actually had it as his profile song. He was a big fan. I thought the song was depressing and did not even want to think about him dying.... not knowing later that month, we would lose him.

We put your lyrics on the funeral program and it took people’s breath away that he kinda had a premonition of his death.

Your song LEFT BEHIND captured Hal, my sweet dear husband who was the best hubbie and most wonderful daddy ever. Our youngest two are 3 yr. and 18 months old and are miracle babies. He was not suppose to have children after 18 months of chemo he had to have in the 80’s. He had toured in Europe with Whotesnake and Van Halen and became sick... only to find out he had cancer.

Ultimately, it was not the cancer that got him.

But my point to u is, he appreciated your music which is a huge compliment coming from a man who was a guitar genius and rarely found a connection with bands he hears from this era.

Thank you so much for having a song that has become SO important to this family. We listen to it and SOB, of course, but it makes us feel closer to him. That means the world.

Pray I will raise my children to love and appreciate the kind of music that was sp important to Halford.

Check out the memorial page friends made for him-

The song reminds me of when my dad died last August. He had been "slowly withering away" for many months-many years really. Several of his kids were there when he gasped his last few breaths. My chest constricts and I have trouble breathing when I think about it.

What gets me is that someone who hasn't gone through this (death) could capture the emotion of it so well in words. Maybe you had a similar experience with a family member.

When i first heard "Left Behind" i fell in love with it. I had bought your CD too good???? from 2000 and in that album, the version of the song is slightly different but there is narrative toward the end that talks about being called to heaven through a senseless act of violence, which reminds me of a friend that i lost from domestic violence. it is such a great song. you guys should really be proud of it. it is a beautiful song.

thanks for sharing your talent and music with the world
