Right on man. I figured we both could be big about this after seeing eye to eye. My initial response as I said was based on my hatred of spam and my love of bands that do break the mold and work their ass off.

Just last night, my close friends and best musicians I know, Misanthropy, had a release party for their second disc. This one was extra special because they ENTIRELY by themselves, wrote, played, recorded and produced the record in-house at their jam-pad without a dime for studio recording time. And these guys are perfectionists at their craft, so far playing three or more times a week, every week, for over 12 years, even with families at home and work everyday. These guys have stuck it out hard.

The record was extra special for me because I did all the artwork and layout for the disc before they sent it to get duplicated. I enjoy their music and their dedication to it very much, and seeing their satisfaction at my presentation of their hard work is one of the greatest joys I've known.

Now that I feel you may have a similar dedication, I would like to say that I have always supported bands, especially locally, no matter what type of music and in most cases, regardless of talent (not pointing fingers at all; haven't checked you guys out yet) but moreso based on their dedication. Those are, and you are, the real musicians to me. I'm sure you get just as angry when you think you've spotted some such "cocksucker" and think of how hard you've worked not to sell out.

Well, man. It was actually pretty fun yelling back and forth but I must say I'm more glad we resolved the misunderstanding. I'll check out your music as soon as I get a chance and hopeful hit you up for a disc once you have available copies. If you're into death/black metal and have the time as well, please check out Misanthropy (link on my myspace). I did their logo, disc, and myspace page layout and any feedback would be appreciated. If you like the work and have need of such services in the future, I do freelance graphic design for bands I support and won't hose you over the prices. The real attraction is their music, however. They're disc is awesome, but like any real band, you have to witness it in person to truly appreciate it.

This time as a -friendly- admonishment, you might get a wider spread of influence of your music if you write a quick message rather than a blind friend add. Like you said, those might be blocked anyway and if you value the quality of your true fans the way Misanthropy does, it's the only way to reach the real fans (and then they'll do most of that word of mouth for you). We're a little on our guard as you've witnessed. Heh.

No problems at all... Words are words and hardly worth fighting over. I do my best to answer every message that comes in.Even if it is a stupid or joke message. like I said this was the second "hatemail" that we received. Im sure we will get more. I hope that the future hatemails will be aimed at our music not at us personally. If someone wants to attack me personally they need to say it to my face:)

Fair enough. I respect the fact that you took the time to intelligently reply back both times. But the threat did come from you initially although it was backlash at my thoughtless profanity, so I can forgive that.

As for my personal safety, sure you'd probably kick my ass, but I try to keep my ass alive, so I'd be prepared. Not pride; necessity. That said, I would like to apologize for my original outburst. You seem like a decent person after exchanging a few thought-out words. And maybe I'll actually give you guys a listen after hearing you defend your music with real words and not just threats (although the threats still remain).

Personally, I don't add bands except one's who I am currently really into and I take that first step. As for blocking such requests, I honestly did not know there was such a feature and haven't been on myspace that long or bothered researching it (myspace is essentially no-frills with such measures). All that made me mad was all the friend requests from people I don't know who just send them out at random. Had you emailed me first and mentioned that you thought I might like the band BASED on my page, then I would've been much more courteous. But you understand in my experience it is merely spam. Knowing that you actually did base it at least somewhat on my listed music interests (a cursory glance is fine, not asking you to research the hell out of it) then I would like to thank you for suggesting your band, whether I like it or not. That takes balls. But a blind request I looked at as spam like I always get (no message, no reasoning, just add us) and fuckers who spam piss me the fuck off and I lost my cool.

I have had many "spammed friends" try to add me and please realize that I've NEVER had anyone reply, because they are just that, spam, from gutless, whiny pricks trying to further their garbage influence. Until now.

These things brought to light, I don't fuck around with anybody or just flirt with machoism for the sake of it. I'll shoot them in the chest and call them an ambulance. Just personal safety and what happens if it's threatened, you understand. I'm not the type to feel real happy about it afterward either, as long as they're stopped.

I am on myspace mostly just for friends though, but I actually have met a couple new people with myspace's openness, so you are right that I should respect that.

Now that I think we understand each other a little better I think we can clear the air some. If I thought your threat was a real danger (especially after talking about it more civally) I'd have authorities on you ass like you wouldn't believe, as it's easy for myspace to trace you and your band especially after an all-but-private message like the one I'm replying to. But I think we both just got carried away with our pride in this case.

I'm willing to forgive the threats if you forgive my initial outburst, and I think that's pretty fair. Let me know if not.

I did not make up the 4th, but it is amusing nonetheless. Check dictionary.com next time.

The key word here is accost. If you feel passionate about music, then the only way to spread its influence is by advertising. This, however, is unwanted soliciting. Whether your music is any good or not is irrelevant (although it's not). What is relevant is that I do not no you, do not enjoy your music, and made no attempt at expressing interest in your band or it's members. (And you can have my sister).

Therefore I think it's dick for you to go around inviting strangers in an effort to get more "hits" on your page or more "listens" to your songs. (A "hit" is a visit by someone to your page, by the way). It's what popup ads do to generate cash from their ads without people WANTING to visit those sites. And your soliciting is equally unwanted.

Furthermore, if your music finds a niche in the pop, commercialized music industry, then more power to you, "mah bruthah". My only questions to you are, how many people a day that you don't know do you send invites to? And what are your criteria for selecting unwilling participants? In my experience with such invites you just don't care as long as you spread the word and hope some people latch on, and I am sick of getting them. If you knew me or even looked at my page (which I do not encourage) then you'd know I probably wouldn't be into your music, but this is just another doornob to hang a flyer on to you, isn't it? Not everyone will be into your music (especially) and you just as soon as later get fucking used to that fact. Ignore it and play the fuck on if you consider yourself a musician.

I don't care what your music sounds like because it's a shitty propaganda manuver used to gain exposure. Do you click on every "Free Cell-Phone" ad in a banner at the top of your myspace page? Don't they annoy the fuck out of you? If I heard you at a show and thought you were okay then that would be different, but I don't watch MTV and I don't listen to people who tell me what the fuck I want to hear. If your are musicians, you would appreciate that.

So my suggestion is, if you actually are musicians, to rely on your ACTUAL fans and playing your shows that people ACTUALLY want to go to in order to spread the word. Not being a fucking popup ad that I have to waste my time deleting.

And in answer to your misunderstood query, I hate many bands that have "hit" songs because I don't like something just because someone else does.

What had preceeded was these thoughts expressed in shorthand.
