Tour Date: 06-28-2009. Jackson Hole, WY
Sunday night shows are something else. This night was no exception. This was Outformation's first show in the state of Wyoming. This alone was something special. On top of that, we had the honor and pleasure of once again working with Jeff Lord-Alge, a world renowned audio engineer, mix engineer, live audio and staging specialist. Just a few days ago back in Big Sky, MT, Jeff and his team built a great stage, sound and light setup that really let us do our thing and focus on performing our songs and creating some heartfelt jams. Fortunately, we had the privilige of the same treatment this night in Jackson Hole. During the show there were some fun things that happened that were not on the setlist. 'Can't Change the Past' was slated for the last song of the first set but we were all 'feeling it' and decided to keep jamming and segued right into a funky ' 'Bout My Money'. The same thing occured at the end of the second set when we were going to finish on Bob Dylan's 'Girl From the North Country' but we were all locked in, so I started the beat of the new 'Outstrumental' and everyone just followed. We were having so much fun we ended up playing a four song encore. The people in Jackson Hole were so appreciative and hungry for music that they were begging for more but it was past last call and we had to end the show. After a great night of rocking in Wyoming it was on and out to the last stop of the tour, the one and only, Colorado.
Tour Date: 6-30-2009. Steamboat Springs, CO
"When he first came to the mountains his life was far away
On the road and hanging by a song."
-Rocky Mountain High (performed by: John Denver; written by: Deuschendorf/Taylor)
The words to that song rigns true on many levels for me and the band. This was the last stop of our month long west coast tour and as far away as we were from home all we can do is let the music and the stage take up that space the heart and mind long for. So many good things have happened to us along the way in this great state. All the aquaintances, experiences, performances, good times and learning that has been done here is are stories unto themselves. Before the evenings performance, Jeff, Sam and Benji did a live FM radio interview where they performed a few songs 'unplugged' and talked about our new album release, 'Fastburn'. On this final night of the tour the band was peaking. During the tour it seemed that every night the band was reaching a higher level during every performance and this night in Colorado proved no different. In Steamboat, from the get go, the band and the crowd were full of energy. There was a mutual give and take from the stage and audience. The band was really putting everything out on the table and taking some musical chances and the audience was right there with whistles and fist pumping in the air taking it all in. During and after the show I had a feeling of a long distance runner. There was a unique feeling of musical dexterity that was happening on stage that was mixed with the high one feels at the finish line of a long race. But, rock and roll never dies and the road goes on forever. It will be a short break for the band and then we will be back in a week for performances in Nashville and the Forecastle Festival in Louisville, KY. Until then...
