Current mood: contemplative
So, someone just commented to one of us, after looking at our websites, "You guys really have quite an operation going on here." That's correct and we really have come a long way, since the previous summer. That marked the point in time when we started recording the last 8 songs to complete our debut album, C8H8. The first six were recorded in summer of '07 and three landed themselves on the demo CD. Instead of arguing which songs should go on the CD, we just decided to put all 14 on there. Why not? I guess we are equally as proud of each song we've written since 2006. Sure, there are mutual favorites and individual favorites, but we found no reason not to share every piece of music with all of you. So, Jan 24th, 2009 marked the official release date of C8H8. Originally projected for Nov of 2008, we not only had some final changes and finishing touches to add, but also wanted to have our CD release at our favorite, JB McGinnes. Just so happened, our friends from Hellbomber were nice enough to make room for us with an opening slot on the 24th, so we could unleash this musical adventure, effectively. We wanted to play a set and then be able to hang out later and relax with the folks that took the time and money to come out and see us. The week prior, Mark Rogers was kind enough to squeeze us into his January schedule to appear on 93.7's Hometown Heroes. This was a perfect opportunity to preview some songs and talk about us, as a band...not to mention plug the show. What great time it was, too. He was a lot of fun and we kept the FCC happy, but there were probably a few moments that an FCC dude was listening in and had one hand on the phone, just waiting for the story to become more offensive. As a band, we made everything happen for this CD, but as far as the CD release, we have to extend a giant thanks to our friends and staff for their help. For those who were there, we had a giant Cubane banner center-stage and two long ceiling to floor banners - one on each side of the stage - portraying our CD cover; a full-on light show, models selling merchandise and exciting the pants of many patrons, professional photographer, and a killer crowd. We definintely want to thank all who helped and serve as Crewbane members: Nick, Rob, Erin, both Nicoles, Sean, Harley Steve, Barbie and Alison, Hellbomber, and Bubba from Gators - not to mention the after-party staff: Jenny, Heather, and Nicole. It was a full-on production that night and no way the 4 of us could've pulled it off alone. Amidst the great music that night from Cubane and Hellbomber, the night sadly ended because two girls could not keep their hands off each other. One was dancing on the monitors while Hellbomber started their 2nd set and out of nowhere, got ripped off the speaker by another chick - a much bigger chick. Funny thing was, I was about to tag the dancer chick's shirt with a Cubane sticker and what do you know? Some other bitch decided there was some unfinished business that couldn't wait. The dancing girl was thrown to the ground, popped back up and the claws started. Paul and I jumped in to break them up, which didn't take much - they were both already out of breath. I cornered one girl and a bunch of people boxed out the other girl. Tom was over at our merch table videoing this and my fighter side-stepped me and started bitching at him for her being caught on film. Yes, it's on film, just as everything else that night was. Truth is: we weren't the ones in the fight, she was - maybe she had put her mouth somewhere she shouldn't have and is now paying for it? Maybe she did nothing wrong and was the victim of a random act of violence? I don't know, but we didn't start the fire, so don't project your anger on us. Then, she tried to threaten us that Hellbomber are her boys. Hello? They're ours, too. Number one: we just did a show with them - number two: it ain't the first one. Barking up the wrong tree. We get along fine with those guys and its a pleasure sharing the stage with them - I don't think we are destined for disagreement anytime soon. Well, this fight escalated more outside and the bar ended up closing a few minutes early, just to cool things off before they really got going. All in all, excellent night. We want to thank everyone again for coming out to see us. Our next show is Bootleggers on Friday, February 13. This is a kick-ass club and we encourage everyone to come out and rock with us. Remember to tell them "Cubane" at the front door and bring some friends. It'll be a good time. The Cubang bus will be leaving that night heading in that direction from Newport, so if anyone wants a ride up, we can accomodate.
