Tara Linda & Luna Nueva

Debut CD ~ New Moon~  Available on CD baby and i-tunes

Mining the archives of global roots music, this crossover band offers a bilingual blend of original songs and a fresh approach to roots music. Featuring 1930's conjunto ballads, dance-hall rancheras, cry-in-your beer boleros, and devilish cumbias, this CD stands apart with rich vocals, lively accordion, old-school bajo sexto, violin and cornet. Featuring special guest Grammy-nominated maestro Santiago Jiménez Jr.  Dedicated to the life of
Lydia Mendoza.
Dueto Gilberto y Tara

Gilbert Reyes (vocals, accordion, bajo sexto) is the founder of Reyes Accordions and the worldwide "Reyes Forum", a community supporting all things accordion and bajo sexto. Committed to his South Texas roots, he produces the "Vintage Record Vault", a spotlight on the music and history of legendary conjunto artists. He has played in conjunto bands since a teenager, and most recently led the Sacramento-based group "Cactus Fire". Gilbert discovered Tara playing Lydia Mendoza's music in cafés of Northern California, and lends his songwriting talents to her vision of roots and conjunto-inspired new music.

Tara Linda (vocals, bass, drums) arrived at conjunto with a repertoire of musical experiences. A Texas native, she began playing music as a drummer in rock and punk bands in Austin while soaking up the rich Texas traditions of blues, Tex-Mex, and Panhandle Americana. After moving to California, she sang in musical theater and began to learn accordion. A sultry songwriter ,Tara sings jazzy blues and "soulful desert cabaret" and writes original music for accordion. "Playing the accordion has been a trip around the world, from French cafés to the Texas borderlands. I am inspired by 1920's/30's conjunto sung by the women of South Texas, in particular, Lydia Mendoza. The music is heartfelt, filled with soul and suffering, and reminiscent of American blues or Portuguese fado. I want the world to know of Lydia's music".

Santiago Jiménez Jr. (accordion, bajo sexto) won the 2000 NEA National Heritage Fellowship award and is a multiple Grammy award nominee. A prolific performing and recording artist, he has made over 60 recordings and has toured with the legendary Lydia Mendoza and Texas stalwarts Butch Hancock and Jerry Jeff Walker. He continues the tradition of his father, Don Maestro Santiago Jiménez Sr., known as the father of modern conjunto music. Santiago played "Amor Bonito" and "Pero Hay Que Triste", recorded in San Antonio, Texas.

Pete Hernandez (accordion, bajo sexto) is a seasoned veteran of the Califorina and Texas conjunto scenes for over 50 years.

Layo Jiménez (bajo sexto) a luthier of fine Jiménez brand bajo sextos who crafts a ballad with the same skill and care.

Jeff Hobbs (violin and cornet) a ubiquitous performer on the Bay Area live music scene.
