Michael Jackson's death has dominated the news for days. Since his death, the TV news networks have devoted so much of their "coveted" airtime to covering every aspect of MJ's story. It seems as though there is virtually no other news in the entire world!
Whatever happened to those people protesting in the streets of Iran over the outcome of their election? Whatever happened to our recession and the skyrocketing unemployment numbers? Whatever happened to all of those auto companies searching for more bailout dollars? Did someone come up with a cure for the swine flu?
I guess Michael Jackson really did end up making a real difference in our world. Sadly, he had to die to get us to focus on something more than the norm--NEGATIVE NEWS.
I think that the folks running the major networks, especially the news networks, really need to rethink what is NEWS in the first place. If we can go so many days without hearing so much about what is bad about the world in which we live, why can't this become the new norm?
I don't know about you, but I have found it refreshing over the past few days to turn on the TV and NOT hear about the world coming to an end. Yes, the Jackson coverage has been extreme; but it sure beats the usual negative brainwashing we seem to get 24/7.
