Location: CJDC television station, Dawson Creek, B.C.
It's 22:10 on a Thursday Night.
There I sit idle, but ready to jump, at any moment to push the button that makes the commercials play. That is my job. Countless viewers rely on my ever-so-keen reaction to commercial breaks to make a smooth transition from show to break.
The button is still, the button is red, the breaks all queued in order, anticipating thier play. As soon as I hear it, I jump in my chair: "We will return after a short break."
Now is my time to shine. I give a strong push with my feet, and the swivel chair takes flight. I break with my feet, a screeching stop as I raise my hand, ever ready to the task.
All at once, a flick of the hand, and my job is done. A smooth transition, and the advertisments roll.
If the job is done right, nobody will know the job was done at all.
I am in the zone. I am a master of my trade; The Button Pusher.
