Endangerment of The Cool Interviews Stainless Steele.
Tre: We here with Stainless Steele. So what’s going on with you Stainless, where do you currently reside?
Steele: Man im just chillin, happy to be here. Right now I’m in
West Chester PA outside of Philly but Im from Lancaster PA, 717! baby!
E.A.G.L.E.S!!!
Marz: iight cool. Philly is in the building.haha
Marz: So why don’t you give the people out there a little synopsis as to who Stainless Steele is?
Steele: Stainless Steele is first an MC but I can freak some
beats too, so like when you hear Diamond D say “The best producer on
the mic” I’m gonna say im the best MC on the MPC you feel? and I’ve
been doing this since school had recess so you might not wan tess! Oh
yeah and my slogan is “I’m hearing colors and seeing sounds” that’s how
i get down, i see music.
Tre: That’s Dope.
Steele: Thanks.
Tre: So how did you come up with stainless steele as a name?
Steele: Well you see that’s easy, my last name is Steele…Stainless came later
Marz: Nice.
Marz: So exactly how long have you been in the game?
Steele: Maaan over 15 years i have been rhyming and over ten
making beats, I performed in my sixth grade talent show with an
original rap over a terminator x beat and I’m 28 now, still doing this,
it has been my life, I love it.
Tre: I feel you I feel you.
Tre: When you first got into it, did you see it becoming a big thing for you?
Steele: Maaan I think the real focus for me was the fact that I
was able to express my thoughts and feelings creatively and it was, and
is my passion, I’m just thankful that people feel it and it’s really up
to others to decide if they wanna run with Stainless, but I’m doing
this to keep my sanity and to try to understand the world around me.
Tre: I hear you on that.
Marz: Who or what initiated you to start doing music?
Steele: Well I grew up in a household where music was constantly
playing, and it was a very eclectic selection of music. My dad has a
huge vinyl collection and he played Frank Zappa, Motown, Van Morrison,
Hendrix, jazz, punk, rap all the time in the house. Also my cousin used
to bring tapes to my grandma’s house on Sundays and we would make up
dance routines to like Big Daddy Kane and Kid and Play and shit, I
started rhymin on my own though it just started coming out of me at a
super early age. Btw I just want to say that my dad passed away about 7
months ago, he was the major musical influence on me and I love and
miss him.
Tre: I’m sorry to hear than man.
Marz: Sorry to hear.
Steele: No doubt man, it’s cool though he’s still here ya know?
Tre: And I’m sure he continues to influence you to this day.
Marz: Word.
Steele: Exactly. And thank God for music because when he was
dying I was pouring out verses cause I had to get it out, and if you
listen to the second verse in my song “Live to Tell” that was like the
first verse I wrote after he passed and it’s pretty much about the
mystery of life and death. It’s on my myspace player.
Tre: Gotta hear that.
Marz: Yea.
Tre: Do you try to portray a message in your lyrics?
Steele: I don’t think so, like I said a lot of times I write
about what I see in the music, and also just what I’m experiencing in
my life, I would say that my own personal experiences is the biggest
influence on my writing, and my own view of the world. I really think
that life is beautiful so I try to describe beauty in my lyrics, even
when I’m experiencing pain and suffering I still see beauty, I try to
express that. Women have been influencing my writing a lot lately too
haha. I think I’m very passionate and my lyrics have a lot of feeling
and passion in them.
Tre: Big love for the women.
Marz: Word.lol
Marz: So tell us about “My Best Friends are Beat makers”.
Steele: OK! My Top Friends Are Beat Makers! My Top Friends Are
Beat Makers is a very exciting project for me because the entire thing
was done by online collaborations with other beat makers I networked
with through myspace, hence the title My Top Friends Are Beat Makers… A
lot of these producers (which is the same thing as a beat maker for
those who get confused) are now close friends of mine because
collaborating as artist is definitely a meaningful thing, I worked with
about 12 producers from all over the US and from other countries too.
The album is mixed together like a mixtape from start to finish so when
you listen to it it flows nicely start to finish.
Tre: Nice!
Tre: How long did it take for you to lay down the tracks?
Steele: Man I would say I worked on this project for about a
little over a year, I would get a beat and bang out the verses, I gotta
admit this past year I really produced a large amount of material and I
think that getting dope beats is really motivating for an MC. haha.
This project was an amazing experience and real fun to do.
Tre: That’s Wassup.
Steele: This where I give a extra special shout out to every beat maker on the album! WHAT UP!
Tre & Marz: lol!
Marz: Would you say you took a route different to that you took when you dropped “Chester Copperpot Dropping Jewels?”
Steele: Yeah I learned a lot from it and I think I’m gonna try to
do a volume 2 with all new beat makers. This is where I say don’t bite
the formula to all you MC’s out there, get ya own!
Tre & Marz: lol!
Steele: As far as “chester copperpot dropping jewels”, that was
my solo album before “My Top Friends” and that entire album was
produced by me, so yeah they sound different from each other, but it’s
still Stainless splashing mad colors over dope beats! I’m very proud
of both projects i gotta say.
Marz: Word.
Tre: We notice that there are a lot more puns related to anime in
your new album. Is that your way to let people in on the new a4b collab?
Steele: Maaan let’s talk about anime haha…A couple heads about a
year or two ago started putting me on to some real dope anime and I
really got into. Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D, Cowboy Bebop etc. The
story lines and the visuals are so ill man, so it started to influence
my writing, and my music just like everything else in my life I’m
inspired by… Then I started to notice anime4breakfast online and
started talking to Killboy, who is like Morpheus from the Matrix but
with A4b! haha.
Tre&Marz: lol! True.
Steele: So yeah I’m rolling with anime4breakfast and Kowloon city 93 records.
Tre: Dope!
Steele: Yeah wii on the come up! midnight kids all day!
Marz: So how do you want people to interpret your music?
Steele: I guess everyone’s interpretation is different right?
Marz: Yes it is.
Steele: I just would like for people who really appreciate good
art to recognize my work is good, I’m a real geek and I love all types
of forms of art and media and I just want to contribute to the art
world but I make music for myself mainly.
Tre: As long as the skill and the art is recognized, that’s the most important thing.
Steele: Yeah but I’m really not buggin on it, like I said I make
music for myself because I love it, but I’m happy to inspire others.
Marz: True.
Tre: What are your top 3 songs that you want people to really pay attention to?
Steele: Maaaan that’s a tough call because I’m really starting to
stack up a hefty catalog these days, but i feel like “Live to Tell” is
a very personal and true to myself song, I think that this answer would
change from day to day with me depending on how I’m feeling ya know? I
think that it’s cool when someone will tell me they really like one of
my songs for whatever reason it struck something personal with them
that doesn’t have the same meaning for anyone else except them you know?
Tre: Yea I feel you.
Marz: Aight, one of my personal fav’s on your album is “Purple Curve Ruins”. Can you explain the message behind that song?
Steele: Ahhh welllll…Purple Curves Ruins is one of those inspired
by a woman songs, and it’s produced by Asonic Garcia, what up Ase
Boogie! Basically it’s about being proactive, going out trying to find
a woman and it back fires, it doesn’t work out. It’s kind of about
looking in the wrong places to find the right woman haha.
Marz: Interesting. And I like how at the end you say ” Ran my
fingers through her hair, gave me one last look and disappeared into
thin air” lol sick!
Steele: haha yeah, I actually wrote the end of that song super
late at night lying in bed, I hopped up and finished laying the vocals.
That mind state between awake and asleep can create some bugged out
thoughts. Haha.
Tre: We know this.
Marz: Haha, all to well.
Steele: Haha.
“I Ran into a cancer that didn’t require sugery, this kind was
a feline that wanted to flirt with me, Certainly I could use the
excitement, and recently I’ve been gettin’ Love confused with
enlightenment”. -Stainless Steele “Purple Curve Ruins”
Tre: Where can the people find your album?
