Current mood:  confused
I'm trying to figure out how they figured the order for this. Hmmm...not alphabetical...not related to polling numbers...not alphabetical by party...not alphabetical by running mate's name...

Just find it odd that Barack Obama is below Ralph Nader while McCain sits conveniently at the top. Someone please tell me I'm an idiot and I'm missing something because in my honest opinion, the front runners should probably be somewhere at the top, sort of like a poster for a concert. Although, I would certainly hope that one would know exactly who they're voting for for president. I just don't think this lineup is very fair. But maybe that's why I'm not in politics.

Not to get all technical but I remember in my Political Science class talking about how the Ballot order does in fact affect votes.

Apparently whoever is first on the ballot has seen increases of 1 percent in votes. But usually that is just with smaller independents and local offices.

How they determine the order however I believe is determined by a drawing in each state (but i could be wrong...its all a bit vague 5 years later)

Good point! Although I don't have a picture of my absentee ballot (Miami -Dade)...McCain/Palin was listed first, then Obama/Biden...hmmm Who knows how they "figure" it out...ugh!!

Wow. That's crazy. I don't see any method to the sorting on that ballot. My ballot here in Florida shows McCain 1st and Obama 2nd.

It was probably written by the same idiot who wrote "Barack Osama" on the Rensselaer County, NY absentee ballots - IMO

Each state has rules on how the ballot is set up. I found it interesting that the 'jobs' of the candidates in the other races are listed. Shouldn't it say 'Maverick' under both McCain and Palin's name? Thanks for sharing this with us. I will be standing in line to cast my vote for Barack Obama on Tuesday.

In my state Barack Obama was on the top of the absentee ballot.
How weird

I think it's randomized. But I'm not sure what group the randomization occurs in, i.e., will different people in the same county get a different order? I'm in the East Bay (Alameda County) and if I remember right, the order was different on mine...

I'm up in Montana and thought that it was kind of strange that in this first-degree-sunburn-red state Obama was at the top and McCain was actually at the bottom. Weeeeherd...

My ballot in Ohio was nearly the same order! With some different third parties in there... repub was first, and then four others before the man Barack.

Didn't seem to matter much... we took Ohio just fine :)
