Support: The One Ensemble, Cath & Phil Tyler
The amazing A Hawk And A Hacksaw return again to the North East with their wondrous blend of Eastern folk, mariachi, klezmer and primitive Americana - anyone who has seen them live before will know what a barnstorming live act they really are!
Fresh from supporting Portishead on their European tour, the band - based around the New Mexico duo of Jeremy Barnes and Heather Trost - return as a sextet including Chris Hladowski (Nalle, Scatter) and others - expect their performance to be chock full of horns, accordion, violin, bouzouki and percussion.
And in support we have Daniel Paddens wondrous The One Ensemble - check out their One Ensemble Orchestra CD Other Thunders on NO-FI. At times they come over like a chamber quartet ambushed by Balkan folk terrorists, their psych primtivist take on chamber music and their collision of the formal and the tribal often recalling the soundtrack and mood of The Holy Mountain
And opening proceedings, we have our own fantastic Cath & Phil Tyler, Newcastles Anglo/US folk duo who Fiona Talkington of late Junction described glowingly: "Folk moves into a new era with Cath and Phil. Their combination of earthiness and grit, raw yet hearfelt and beautiful singing and immaculate playing makes this one of the most exciting and most moving albums I have heard in a long while."
