gBox To Launch Today
2007-08-22 11:47:20.120,
Story by: Kevin Kampwirth
Today, Silicon Valley is set to birth a new online music company, gBox, Inc., and its accompanying website gBox.com. gBox will incorporate a feature known as the "Gifting Widget," which will allow labels to reach perspective consumers through personal- and social-networking websites. Universal Music Group has announced that they will direct their customers to gBox's online store, where they will be able to download thousands of Universal titles free of digital-rights management and then set up a gBox wishlist, which can be published on the profile page of their choice. "Gifting" will allows users to keep a list of things they want, have given or received, and (should you gift someone) the service provides you with a link to the giftee's profile page in case the two parties would like to meet. Basically, instead of leaving comments a la MySpace, you leave gifts. Sign-up is free, requiring only a user name and password.
