This Weekend’s Scottish Games are Awarded ABA’s ‘100 Best Events’
—Three Tri-Valley Sept. Festivals are Ticket to Fun—

PLEASANTON, CA – September 3, 2009 – The Tri-Valley, California Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) www.trivalleycvb.com, a sales and marketing organization dedicated to promoting a five-city region in San Francisco’s East Bay, today announced that the Annual Scottish Highland Gathering and Games, taking place this weekend in Pleasanton, have been designated as one of the Top 100 Events in North America by an elite tourism industry committee with The American Bus Association (ABA) www.buses.org. Other acclaimed festivals are making Tri-Valley the place to be this September: a wine festival occurs this weekend and a guitar festival is rocking next weekend.

“Inclusion in the Top 100 list, published as a supplement to the September/October issue of Destinations magazine, indicates that The Annual Caledonian Scottish Games offer excellent entertainment value to both tour groups and individual travelers from around the world,” Peter J. Pantuso, ABA's president and CEO. “The Scottish Games have been recognized as a potential magnet for tourism dollars, at a time when reenergizing domestic tourism is so important to our spirit and our economy. The honor gives the Tri-Valley region an important boost in visibility among professional tour planners.”

According to studies recently completed by researchers at The George Washington University and Dunham and Associates, one overnight visit by a motorcoach group can leave from $5,000 to more than $13,000 in a local destination's economy. Those dollars are spent on lodging, meals, admissions, fees, shopping, souvenirs, services and local taxes.

ABA's 2010 Top 100 Events Selection Committee selected Caledonian Scottish Games from among hundreds of U.S. and Canadian events nominated by state and provincial tourism offices and convention and visitors bureaus. Judges considered the event's broad appeal, its accessibility to motorcoaches and skill at handling large groups, and a variety of other relevant criteria. Only two other events in California received this ABA honor: Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses and Sacramento’s Gold Rush Days.
