Here are some questions and answers from this week's Reggie's Mailbag:
Q: Hey Reggie,
I wanted to know who are your top five MVP Candidates so far this season? Me personally, I would have to agree with Doug Collins, and say that LeBron James right now is at the top of the list.
From, Kalan
A: LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard and Steve Nash...Kobe would be my MVP.
Q: Do you think that the NBA should make a new standings policy instead of East and West, because the West is so competitive? Teams that are 8th and 9th place in West would be 3rd or 4th in East. What do you think?
From, Abdi in Toronto, Ontario
A: Yes, let's go to a 1-16 format...best records.
Q: When Dwight Howard did the crazy superman dunk, he didn't touch the rim. Is that still counted as a dunk?
From, Albert
A: Yes and it's more impressive!! Throwing it from the sky is actually harder!!
Q: What teams from each conference will make it to the NBA Finals?
From, Karmanpreet
A: Spurs in the West and Celtics in the East.
Q: As you know the competition in the Western Conference has risen to another level with the trades that the Lakers and Suns have made. As a Lakers fan I'm elated with the Gasol acquisition. He's fortified the front court and he gives much needed low post scoring and rebounding. However, I feel the Lakers can only compete for the title if Andrew Bynum returns and plays at or near the level he was at before sustaining the knee injury. My problem is that too many so- called basketball analysts are making the Lakers the prohibitive favorites to come out of the West. I'm from the school of thought that knows to be the champ you have to beat the champ. The Spurs are a fundamentally sound team. They don't beat themselves, they're well coached and they play great defense. My question to you Reggie is: Why are the Spurs so often underestimated and overlooked? Finally, if they are beaten which team is in the best position to do that??
From, Wesley
A: The Spurs are overlooked because people perceive them as being boring. I like that they don't change for anyone. The Lakers and Mavs could challenge the Spurs.
Q: If I send a fan mail letter to Michael Jordan and Dwyane Wade, what are the chances I will get a reply?
From, Kyle
A: I don' know, both men are pretty busy.
