There is a twitch in my right eyelid. It is just above the outside corner of my eye and when it happens it feels like the rapidly beating wings of something small and stupid that is trying to get out of somewhere. It is very annoying. It has been doing it for about four days, every ten minutes on average, probably. I am sick of it. I googled ’twitchy eye’ and a hundred results came back. It is very common. It is related to tiredness and stress, everyone says. Get some more sleep. Relax. I am at work and it is not really practical for me to get some more sleep right now. In the meantime I read that a sticker applied to the twitch can stop it twitching. I ask my boss if he has a sticker. What kind of sticker, he says. Just one of those little round ones, I say, the kind you get with wall planners like the one you’ve got on the wall there. Oh yes, he says, I think I have got some of those stickers. He fishes in his desk drawer. Here you are, he says. What colour? Red please, I say. I take the sheet of stickers from him and peel off a small red dot. About the size of the circumference of a thin pencil. I stick it to my right eyelid, in the approximate location of the twitch. It feels unusual but not bad. I hand the sheet of stickers back to my boss. Thanks, I say. No problem, he says. I go back to my typing and suddenly realise I am typing this instead of the Indian restaurant menu I was typing before. My eyelid hasn’t twitched while I was typing this though. The sticker is working. This is excellent. All of this story is true.
