Desmond Dekker was an amazing artist, with vocal talents I could only dream of having. From what I was told, he passed only a couple of weeks before he was supposed to tour here. I'm not sure if it was true that he was coming, but it saddens me just the same that I never got to see him perform.

His music has truly impacted my life- it's one of the only things that can make me smile when things get really bad.

Maybe I'll get to hear him sing in person, in the afterlife. I can only hope. =)

He's my all time favorite singer. To me he is the very defintion of Skinhead reggae and the greatest Reggae singer of them all. When I was in the Navy, out to sea and wanting to kill people, his voice was the voice that kept a smile on my face, which meant a great deal. The first time I listened to him I was just so amazed that he was not more famous in terms of the history of popular Reggae. To us Skinheads though, he is the very essence of rocksteady, the absolute zenith. It was such gorgous music. I am so saddened that I was out to sea in the Navy when he made his final tour to the US. My idea of heaven features alot of Desmond Dekkers music playing very loudly in the day time and very softly off in the distance at night. You were the greatest Desmond, we love you.

there is so much respect to be given to this talented man and he deserves every bit of it.

the first time i heard his music i was only in the 6th grade(this was the first time i had ever heard of ska) and i remember listening to all sorts of music alot of 3rd wave and then my friend switched over to Desmond and the first few seconds i knew this wasn't just music it was heaven extruding from the headphones of my friends CD player.
I just knew there was something true and meaningful about his music and now i'm in in high school still listening to the beautiful and amazing lyrics of Desmond Dekker
-love and respect-

better late than never...

Desmond Dekker has changed my life. The first 'real' ska song i heard was It mek. and the rest is history. Rest in peace. Your legend will never die. I only regret that I never met you.
