From the Blog (www.myspace.com/michaelmongillo) of BEING MICHAEL MADSEN's Director, Michael Mongillo:
Team Mean Time's second full-length feature, WELCOME TO EARTH (www.welcometoearthmovie.com), is really, actually, honestly, and truly coming out on DVD through Brightly Entertainment. Originally, I made the announcement here at my so-called Blog that it was going to be released in the second-half of 2009 but, for a variety of reasons, its release has now been rescheduled for 2010 (likely the second quarter).
This is a good thing; in fact, the delay has given us time to re-master WELCOME TO EARTH for 16x9 with an all new color-correct and some re-edits, making the original "festival cut" now a tighter-paced director's "preferred cut." (It ain't written in stone until its official release, baby!) Still in the works is the probability of at least one commentary track...maybe two. So, it'll be worth the wait to any of you who were waiting and I know there's a few of you out there (and thank you for that, by the way).
To those not 'in-the-know': WELCOME TO EARTH is the second picture I co-wrote, co-produced, and directed with my intrepid coconspirators for what, even by indie film standards, was no budget. I note this to give those who watch it context, not to apologize. W2E was inspired, form and function, by the "whatever-it-takes" tenacity of film history's trailblazers, specifically guys like John Cassavetes (THE KILLING OF A CHINESE BOOKIE, etc.), Jim Jarmusch (STRANGER THAN PARADISE, etc.), and Richard Linklater (SLACKER, etc.). These true (actual) indie filmmakers did not let time, equipment, and financing limitations stop them. They were forced to find ways to tell their stories despite these challenges and as much as necessity is the mother of invention, it can lead to real genius, too. Claiming "genius" is where my comparisons end but what I know for certain is Team Mean Time made a movie that has touched and moved many people (who, thankfully, have taken the time to talk to me or write to me about) and nothing makes me happier.
So, check out WELCOME TO EARTH when Brightly Entertainment releases it in 2010. And instead of dropping ten bucks on, say, a trip to McDonald's (that's right...I'm told the retail price for W2E the DVD will be around $10), maybe you'll consider spending your hard-earned cash on a W2E DVD. True indie filmmakers and distributors need your support. Seriously, though. No...seriously.
When a hard "street date" is set, you'll read it here first. Until then...
Be well, Michael Mongillo [Director of BEING MICHAEL MADSEN]
