Arrests over M40 Hell's Angel death
Daily Star, UK - Arrests have been made in connection with the murder of biker Gerry Tobin who was gunned down on a busy motorway.
Police refused to say how many people were in custody over the murder of the 35-year-old, who was shot on the M40 as he rode home from the Bulldog Bash bikers' festival in Warwickshire on August 12.
A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said: "Arrests have been made in connection with the death of Gerry Tobin. Further details will be released at a press conference this morning."
Earlier this week police released CCTV footage of the Hell's Angel looking relaxed as he stopped at a petrol station just minutes before he was shot in the back of the head.
So far, police have failed to establish a motive for Mr Tobin's murder.
The murder has prompted fears of a violent feud erupting between rival motorcycle gangs, but Detective Superintendent Ken Lawrence, who is heading the investigation, urged bikers not to take the law into their own hands.
An examination of Mr Tobin's Harley Davidson has confirmed that a second shot fired in the attack hit the motorbike.
Mr Lawrence said he was "content" that the shots were fired from a dark green Rover 620 which was seen passing Mr Tobin at the time of the murder.
Motorists reported seeing the car driving off at great speed immediately after the attack, and officers are now studying hours of CCTV footage, including images of the Rover.

Hells Angels member facing drug charges
London Free Press, Canada - One of several full-patch Hells Angels in London faces a slew of drugs- and weapons-related charges after police swooped down on a Dufferin Avenue home.
A cache of prohibited and restricted weapons -- including brass knuckles, switchblades and a .357 magnum revolver -- were seized when London police and the OPP-led biker enforcement unit searched the home at 822 Dufferin Ave. about 10 a.m. Monday, police said.
Ammunition and $8,000 worth of marijuana were also seized.
"It is a significant seizure," Daniel Redmond, unit commander of the biker enforcement unit, said yesterday from Toronto.
"I hope it sends a message to the public that the biker enforcement unit is being vigilant in their investigation of outlaw motorcycle gangs."
The fact that prohibited weapons were seized in the raid indicates the potential for violence was there, he said.
"Things like switchblades and brass knuckles aren't commonplace, so why would anybody have that in their possession?" he said.
Any time police get a handgun off the street, they're potentially stopping a chain of violent events, he said.
"A gun perpetuates . . . it can pass through several hands and cause a lot of harm," Redmond said.
Same goes for the arrest of the full-patch Hells Angel member, he said.
While neighbours yesterday said the man charged was a friendly guy who didn't cause problems in the community, Redmond said people shouldn't be fooled by the nature of outlaw gangs.
"As much as (the) rhetoric is that they're fun-loving motorcycle enthusiasts, they're not," he said.
It's hard to say how many full-patch Hells Angels exist in London since numbers constantly fluctuate, but Redmond said estimates from earlier this year indicate there are nine.
Police believe there are also three probationary members who belong to the London chapter -- one of 16 across the province.
Amy Phillipo, London police media officer, said the Dufferin Avenue bust was a reminder the Hells Angels still have a foothold in London -- even if they've flown below the radar for a while.
"We still have to be aware and vigilant," she said.
Robert Hamilton, 39, of London, faces 11 charges, including those related to possession of restricted and prohibited weapons, possession of stolen property and unlawful production and possession of marijuana.

Bikie clubs raided over 'sly grog, drugs'
Sunday Times.au, Australia - NEW South Wales Police have raided bikie clubhouses they suspect are being used to sell alcohol and drugs after closing time at local pubs.
Today's raids on six bikie headquarters - from Chinderah in northern NSW to Nowra in the state's south - was the latest stage in the Operation Ranmore crackdown on bikie gangs.
Two of the clubhouses were operated by the Rebels gang, two by the Finks and the other two by the Lone Wolf and Fourth Reich gangs.
Gang squad commander, Detective Superintendent Scott Whyte, said police seized about $30,000 worth of alcohol from the clubhouses, the sites of alleged illegal alcohol sales.
Police also allegedly seized a small amount of drugs and two illegal firearms.
Supt Whyte said members of the public in country towns where the bikie gangs had a presence were turning up at the clubhouses to buy alcohol and drugs after closing time at their local pub.
"It is important that members of the public are aware that they expose themselves to prosecution if located by police on these unlicensed premises," Supt Whyte said.
"We also have strong intelligence indicating that outlaw motorcycle gangs invite members of the public to their clubhouses as a means to recruit new members and sell illicit drugs."
A total of 121 bikies have been arrested and 440 charges laid since Operation Ranmore was established in May this year.
The charges range from traffic matters to drug supply, affray and participation in a criminal group.
Supt Whyte said no charges had so far been laid over today's raids.

Coffin Cheaters face court over police fight
ABC Online, Australia - Five members of an outlawed motorcycle gang will appear in court today after a violent confrontation with police at Airlie Beach in north Queensland.
Police allege the members of the Coffin Cheaters bikie gang became aggressive when approached by police outside a nightclub.
Police say they were forced to use capsicum spray to subdue a number of the men.
It is alleged that a 29-year-old man spat at a police officer during the arrest, with the spittle landing in the officer's mouth.
The men, all from Western Australia, face numerous charges, including assaulting police and drug offences.

Police on alert as bikies gather
Daily Mercury, Australia - POLICE will be on high alert this weekend when up to 250 bikies gather from around Queensland and Australia to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Mackay chapter of the Rebels Motorcycle Club.
The celebrations also fall just one week short of the 10th anniversary of the infamous bikie shootout at the Roundhouse on Barnes Creek Road.
The event has been promoted Australia-wide and is also featured on the Rebels national website.
One of Australia's highest profile and most controversial bikies, Rebels national president Alex Vella, may make a surprise visit to Mackay for the local celebrations.
However, the Mackay president of the Rebels Don Trevethan, distanced his club from the shootout anniversary saying his club had nothing to do with the notorious gunfight.
"That had nothing to do with us at all," Mr Trevethan said.
"It involved two other parties (the Outlaws and Odin's Warriors).
"Our celebration is for the 10th anniversary of the founding of our chapter.
"I expect several hundred people to be here including members from other chapters.
"I honestly don t know if he (national president Alex Vella) is coming. I won't know about that until Friday night.
"Our event will be open to the public and there will be two live bands and a licensed bar."
Mr Trevethan also said there had been no meetings with police to discuss arrangements for the celebrations.
And the Rebels did not plan to go on any organised "run" around Mackay as part of their celebrations.
In addition to the 250 expected Rebels, the Odin's Warriors expect to have about 30 to 40 members in Mackay for the weekend.
And the Outlaws will be gathering at their clubhouse at Glenella.
The Daily Mercury understands that bikie movements will be under police surveillance all week with extra officers rostered to work this Saturday night.
The Mackay Tactical Crime Squad and Dog Squad will be on duty but police will not confirm reports that extra specialist teams of police will be brought to Mackay for the weekend.
If national president Alex Vella comes to Mackay he will be given special protection by Rebels club members.
Mr Vella, 51, is a millionaire who has been the subject of a major television current affairs investigation and several police and taxation office investigations in recent years.
Several months ago Mr Vella, a Sydney-based Maltese citizen whose Australian visa had expired, was refused entry back into Australia after a visit to Japan and he had to get lawyers to take legal action to get back into the country.

Daniel Christ Dies In Wisconsin Motorcycle Accident
InjuryBoard.com, FL - According to the Iowa City Press Citizen, Daniel D. Christ, president of the Iowa City chapter of BMW Motorcycle Owners of America, was heading home from a weekend motorcycle rally in West Bend, Wis., when he was killed by a suspected drunk driver on Highway 60.
Christ, 40, died Sunday of injuries sustained when a woman driving in the opposite direction in Rubicon, Wis., crossed the centerline and collided with him, throwing him off his motorcycle, the Dodge County Sheriff's Department said.
There are several avenues of compensation available to the relatives and dependents of Christ. They should seek a lawyer immediately to protect their rights. They may need a lawyer from both Iowa and Wisconsin. I've investigated personal injury cases involving death in Wisconsin for an Iowa widow.

Bike night a success despite injuries
Martinsburg Journal, WV - MARTINSBURG — This year's Bike Night was hailed as an entertaining, fun-filled evening that brought an estimated 6,000 people to Martinsburg's downtown business district last weekend, according to event organizers.
Riders showed off their skills on motorcycles of all shapes and sizes as they rolled into town Saturday evening to kick off the annual event, which was sponsored by Main Street Martinsburg and the Blue Knights of West Virginia Chapter V.
Blue Knights member Jeff Embree rode from Winchester, carrying the American flag on his Harley Davidson Heritage motorcycle and appreciated the party waiting for him and his biker buddies, he said.
"It was fabulous. We had quite a turnout," Embree said, estimating 500 riders showed up. Embree, who indicated less motorcyclists were part of the ride, credited the band, J. factor with the turnout. "I think people went just to hear them, despite what we do."
Randy Lewis, director of Main Street Martinsburg, said he thought the event was successful.
The day didn't go off without a hitch, however. Three people were injured as a result of an accident that happened when a motorcyclist lost control of his bike.
Michael J. Stengel and his two children were run over when a motorcycle ridden by Terry Keller launched into the crowd and landed on the family, causing minor injuries.
Embree, who works for the Frederick County Sheriff's office in Winchester, said it was disappointing to hear somebody got hurt.
"When you have that many people in a confined area, somebody is going to get bumped into or worse," he said. "We handled a lot of motorcycles and noise. We had a few incidents, but we plan to move forward."
A third of the proceeds from the event will be given to the Hospice of the Panhandle. "The event was for a good cause," Embree said.
Lewis said the profit totals from the event have not yet been tallied.
"We did make money, and we are giving back to the community," he said.
Lewis thanked the Martinsburg Police Department for policing the event and the city's Public Works Department for cleaning up afterwards.
Police Chief Ted Anderson said another incident occurred on the corner of West Addition Street and Winchester Avenue when a driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic and pulled out in front of a group of bikers who swerved to miss his car.
"It has always been my intention to try and afford as much public accommodations as we can," he said. "Unfortunately, there are some instances where we can't accommodate everybody."
Police also fielded a few noise complaints.

Motorcycle Rally For Fragile X Syndrome
WCSH-TV, ME - NEW GLOUCESTER (NEWS CENTER) -- You may hear the roar of motorcycles this coming Saturday in New Gloucester... and the louder that roar, the better. That's because riders will be raising money for a good cause.
They're gathering at Maine Coast Cycle for a trip around the Lakes Region. Bike riders will be raising money for education and research into Fragile X Syndrome, a genetic disorder that results in developmental disabilities.
Five-year-old Alex Gosselin of New Gloucester was born with Fragile X. So was 18-year-old Alec Wilson of Cumberland. The boys' moms, Julie Gosselin and Julie Wilson, say that early intervention is key.
Alex is just beginning to use words. In addition to speech delay issues, anxiety is also a common factor with kids with the syndrome.
Doctor Victoria Dalzell of the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital says Fragile X Syndrome is one of the few known genetic causes of autism. Dr. Dalzell also says that research into this disorder is promising.
The motorcycle ride to raise money for research begins Saturday morning. Riders are asked to meet at Maine Coast Cycle for registration that begins at 8:00 A.M.
