This weekend in Atlanta was really something special. I love playing shows close enough to Nashville that my girls can join me. So Emily drove down the Saturday morning with the girls, and we got to spend the day together at the ball park. Lulu had an absolute blast. The Braves were kind enough to put all of us in a sky box, which is something I dreamed of when I was a kid. “I wonder who those people are sitting up in those sky boxes,” I used to think when we would go to the ball games… Now I was one of those people. It’s the little things, folks.

Anyway, the Braves looked like they were going to win 2-1, but the Reds tied it up late in the game, and it sent the game into extra innings… I began to worry that the crowd wouldn’t last through a 4 1/2 hour game and a concert. But finally, after 12 innings the game came to a close, unfortunately a Braves loss. But, much to my surprise the crowd stuck around for the concert and we had an amazing time singing inside the stadium. I even got to run out of the dugout when they introduced me. This was as close to one of my dreams coming true as I’ll ever get. The only thing missing was my uniform and my baseball glove. But it’s all good.

Earlier in the morning, I was asked to sing at the Braves chapel service before the game. I sang, “The Motions” and we had an incredible time with the team’s chaplain with prayer and devotions. Me being a huge baseball fan, only made that cooler because we got to hang out and pray with some of the players. I was so impressed by guys like Matt Diaz and Javier Vasquez. They shared their testimonies before the game. It was awesome to see these players using their platform to share about their faith.

So, thanks to Atlanta and the Braves for a great day. Hope everyone had a great Labor Day Weekend -mw

That's pretty cool, even though I'm an Oakland Athletics fan, not a Braves fan..

So... if you had worn a baseball jersey, would you have ran out in your hometown Cubbie blue or White Sox black?  Or would you be respectful of the home team and worn a Braves jersey?  Its cool to find out which athletes are professing Christians... I didn't know that about Vasquez the 3 years he was in Chicago... interesting... anyways, awesome experience I'm sure!

Matthew that is an awesome experience.  What fantastic memories to take away, praising God with your family at the Braves stadium.  If I remember correctly from your 700 Club interview, you have a great testimony yourself.  What an awesome God, that he would save us from our sin and then allow us to be a part of what he is doing.  God bless and be safe.

..I was at the Braves game that day! My mom had called 104.7 The Fish and had won the 4 pack of tickets to the game!!! So my family was there and I wasn't feeling good because I had had a headache since the day before and it wasn't going away so I was in a not so great mood and I just wanted to go home but I couldn't because we all rode to the game together. So when I remember that we had to stay after for you concert I was frustrated because I just wanted to go home and I wasn't feeling good and I was thinking man this is a fish concert it's probably going to suck. I have been trying to grow strong in the Lord again after backsliding for aboout 6 horrible months so I still have trouble with staying strong and doing the right thing. But anyway I was like ah Matthew West is going to suck, I have heard his name but don't know what songs he sings so now I have to sit here even longer after a 12 inning Braves game and I was in a bad mood. once you started playing though I recognized most of the songs you played and I was like HEY I like these songs and he doesn't suck! So I just wanted to say thank you for coming out to the Braves game and playing those songs! Your songs have helped to reignite the fire for Christ that I once had and that I am trying to regain! The Motions plays through my head most of the day almost every day now. So THANK YOU again for coming out and doing the concert! It was awesome! I loved it! I can't wait to see you again! I feel connected with you some how and in some way. So thank you for accepting my friend request so I could write this book of a comment on here. I love your music and thank for doing what you do! Keep up the awesome work for God!........-Josh..

Oh my gosh!!! That's so cool!!! I'm a huge baseball fan, so I can imagine the excitement you felt just to be there!!! Then to meet and pray w/the players & perform on the field... AWESOME!!! I'm practically in tears just thinking about it... Glad you were able to enjoy... Hope the Cubs (and Brewers - I'm a huge brewers fan) can do better next year!!!
