Initially, I took this photo (see below) for a magazine called "Asian Restaurant News" (the issue will be out in August).

I uploaded it to my Flickr account.

Yahoo.com Mexico
picked up the photo from my flickr account and used in on their front page.

Guess how many people viewed this photo yesterday. Seriously, throw out a guess.

Helen's Gourmet Chinese Food

Now ask me how much money I've received for the use of this photo. Answer: nada.

i gave them permission inadvertently by attaching my default creative commons license to this photo. the license that i use (by default) on my flickr photos allows people to use my shots as long as they don't alter them or make money directly (i.e. used in advertising, print, posters, etc)... and common courtesy requires that people give credit to me - which is why thousands of people visited my flickr site during that period.

fyi, people have snatched and used my flickr photos on dozens of blogs around the world.

FYI, there were 1,050 views on that day... and there were over 4,000 views in a 5 day period. kinda weird.

you need to have your website on ALL you flckr photos then!
if someone wants the photo without it they can buy it.
you could have had some amazing free advertising for your photo business...and you still can, actually.
