I began to think about how blood donation is almost a spiritual experience for me. If I am so uncomfortable giving a pint or two of myself at the cost of a single prick in the arm, how sincere am I about giving my life for others as Christ did? What about others in this world who are suffering far greater physical suffering? Will I have compassion on them? What was the magnitude of Jesus' bodily pain being peirced and hung on a cross after being flogged? What about his spiritual separation and pain in that moment?
