It would be easily forgivable, when asked about Swedish death metal to draw on ideas of melodic thrashing riffage with a high emphasis on mid tones and a very accesible vocal sound as far as death metal is concerned. This has been the widest perception of Sweden's contribution to the genre for many years but maybe that will soon change.
Degrade are a band who excel and revel in massive low-end, groove laden chugging and an overall visceral emphasis on all that is heavy. This is displayed to the Nth degree on Lost Torso Found, a thouroughly solid release which has been proving this band as one of the front-runners of Sweden's brutal scene.
I find the mix of blasting and chugging groove sections really enjoyable, although maybe not very original, there is something about Degrades playing and compostion that just screams with quality. The production really helps this, with everything sounding loud, clear and totally modern. The songs aren't overly memorable, but have a great sense of presence, listening to this band is somewhat of an "in the moment" experience, which should keep the listener returning for more.
This is another album I'd advise trying before buying, some people may not really get into it, but anyone who's looking for something full of groove and heaviness with a good production should definitely check this release out.
