Member: Barbara Buchholz

(Thereminist Professional)
myspace.com/barbarabuchholz

SELECTED BY: Carolina Ecyk; "because she creates such a wonderful meditative atmosphere with her music."

MUSIC REVIEW:
TC says;"While listening to performances of her pop induced electronica on her myspace page, I was truly fascinated by her Barbara-esque embellishments."

FACT:
Barbara Buchholz employs the theremin in a variety of styles in jazz, improvised music, and New Music. Together with Lydia Kavina she founded the platform Touch! Don't Touch! in 2005 as a production site for the theremin in New Music.
In the areas of jazz and improvised music she performs with a variety of ensembles, including a trio with the Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen and the live electronics performer Jan Bang. Barbara Buchholz presents her solo performances together with the projection artist pedda Borowski, who works with two overhead projectors. The hands-off performance of the theremin and the real-time creation of paintings make for a unique interactive combination. CD Productions: 2004– Theremin: Russia with Love (INTUITION). 2006 - Touch! Don't Touch! (WERGO). Currently in production for 2008 are collaborations with artists from the fields of electronics and jazz with artists.

carolina-eyck.de

SELECTED BY: Charlie D

MUSIC REVIEW:
TC says;" I have never seen Carolina live but her videos display her precision on such a difficult instrument. The instrument purrs in her hands."

FACT:
Carolina Eyck commenced taking theremin lessons with Lydia Kavina at the age of 7. Up to now, she can look back on a remarkable
international career. She has been invited by well-known orchestras and chamber musicians and is a frequent guest at festivals and shows. With her book "The Art of Playing the Theremin" she defines a systematic method of playing the theremin. With this method she hopes to increase the number of people interested in the theremin and professional playing thereminists, in order to give the instrument its definite place within the music world.

Member: Charlie Draper

(Thereminist Professional)
www.myspace.com/charliedraper

SELECTED BY: Bruce Woolley; "because he is the most promising 'up and coming' player I have met so far!"

MUSIC REVIEW:
TC says;" Charlie's ability to articulate the nuances of the lyrical pieces he has chosen (on his myspace page) belies his youth and experience on the theremin."

FACT:
Charlie Draper was only fifteen (2005) when he first got his hands on a theremin. Since then he has performed in concert with Lydia Kavina and Barbara Bucholz, traveled to Germany in order to perform with Carolina Eyck, and faces an exciting career as one of Britain's few classically-trained thereminists.
His musical tastes are diverse, and he enjoys trying all sorts of different music on the theremin. Charlie is currently studying for his A-levels, and hopes to read History at University. This weekend he is playing theremin for a 1930s garden party in the Cotswolds. He can be contacted for booking and tuition enquiries.

MUSIC REVIEW:
TC says; "If the Tardis were RSO's time traveling chill-out lounge...Bruce's musical cocktails serve up so smooth."

FACT:

1. EPro - gift from Bob Moog after we played at his 70th Birthday Party in LDN; (we composed a piece for a quartet of Moog Voyagers which we dubbed "Toccata and Moog"! However this joke only works in the UK because, Moog rhymes with Vogue!)

SELECTED BY: Kevin Kissinger who says; that "Susi has done much to promote the theremin. Her electronic compositions resound with creativity and wit."

MUSIC REVIEW:
TC says; "Like beads of jewels on a spider's web, so does Miss Hypnotique's clever compositions sparkle with musical tease."

FACT:
"Gothic chanteuse and multi-instrumentalist Hypnotique combines fragile, timeless melodies performed on woodwind and theremin with vaudeville noir stories and apocalyptic songs. She plays a classical 'open' technique, tutored by Lydia Kavina, sometimes combined with improvised elements. She performs theremin for TV, radio, recordings and special events and has played with the Radio Science Orchestra, Dawn of the Replicants and industrial ensemble Babyslave."

SELECTED BY: Buddy Craigg who says; "It's as if there was a place set aside just for him in the ether"

MUSIC REVIEW:
TC says; "Kevin's compositions are artfully arranged and his theremin playing befitting his style; I enjoyed both the electronic and classical space in which he thinks."

FACT:
"Kevin utilizes theremin, synthesizers, MIDI, and analog/digital technology to create musical compositions. Last June, Kevin performed at the Electro-music festival (in Philadelphia, PA) and will perform at the upcoming Electronic Music Midwest Festival and the Y2K7 International Live Looping Festival. Kevin's theremin music is challenging to perform and accessible to a wide range of audiences."

MUSIC REVIEW:
Buddy has no recorded music and humbly tells TC that "I still need a lot of practice."

FACT:
"Late in 2006 I was reading a review about an album from a band I've listed to for 20 years (foetus) and it mentioned special guest Pamelia Kurstin the thereminist. I asked myself what's a thereminist? It's someone that plays the theremin. I asked myself what's a theremin? I googled it and spent the next 16 hours reading about, studying and listening to theremins. I have been hooked ever since."
