DCTV offers a number of workshops to get you started creating your own programming or helping others create theirs.
The Field Production workshop introduces participants to the technical aspects of public access television production "on location." Students will learn the fundamentals of how to operate DCTV field cameras, microphones, and portable mic mixers. Media literacy concepts will also be introduced and discussed. In this hands-on workshop, students will participate in various in-class group exercises, and in the production of a short program to be aired on DCTV.
This workshop is recommended for anyone interested in operating DCTV field equipment. DCTV currently has two Canon XL2 and two Canon GL2 camcorders for participants to use after completing this workshop.
The Studio Camera workshop offers training in the technical aspects of public access television production in DCTV's studio. Students will learn how to operate DCTV's studio cameras, microphones, intercom system, and studio lights. Topics covered include: media literacy, camera operations, directing, floor managing, and lighting in the studio. This workshop includes hands-on practice exercises.
This workshop is recommended for individuals interested in operating DCTV studio equipment. Graduates are certified to crew, as a camera operator, floor manager, or grip on a studio production.
The three sesssion Editing workshop introduces participants to the basic concepts of non-linear editing with Final Cut Express. Participants will be trained in the use of DCTV's Apple MacBook Pro Laptops. Instruction will include media literacy concepts for editing, titling, and DVD mastering.
We offer at least one editing workshop per month. These consist of two group sessions from 6-9pm on Monday and Tuesday, and a final one-to-one session to be scheduled at a convenient time for you and
your instructor.
Once you have completed the editing workshop and been certified by the instructor you will be able to reserve the DMA edit suites to work on your projects. When you're working on your project you might find our Final Cut Editing wiki articles useful.
We have two edit suites on site, which you can book for four hour sessions. Both suites feature microphones and mixing desks to make recording and adding voiceovers easy.
The Studio Control Room workshop offers training in the technical aspects of public access television production in DCTV's studio and control room. Topics covered include: media literacy, video switching, directing, audio mixing, graphics and recording. This workshop includes hands-on practice exercises.
This workshop is recommended for individuals interested in operating DCTV studio equipment. Graduates are certified to crew, as an audio operator, switcher, or director, on a studio production.
