Lyrics of Mary (by Yazz)

MARY
Blue eyes gazed out across the bay
Pale blue eyes tinged with gray
In her heart a girl at play
Remembering...remembering
A life that was lived so long ago
Filled with loved ones she used to know
Places that she used to go
Remembering...remembering
A village bright with love and life
Torn, gone forever from war and strife
Friends who were taken, in the night
Remembering...remembering
Remembering how it used to be
When life was rich, and good, and free
Gardens brimming with earthly delights
Gypsy violins in the nights
Mingled with voices of young village men
From the winery nearby...how good life was then!
The little girl drowsy in her bed in the dark
Drifted off to sleep with peace in her heart
As the young men sang and the gypsies played on
And the wine flowed free 'til the early dawn.
Then came dark days, days of fear
Storm clouds drawing ever more near
The knock on the door in the still of the night
Brought tears and sorrow, anger and fright.
Still a young girl, afraid and alone
She left all she had, for places unknown
'La Liberte' greeted her in a mist from a boat
She had boarded for many days, afloat.
So began her life in this strange new land
With no one to help, to lend her a hand
Life was puzzling, hard, and mean
Still she forged ahead, into a future unseen
And now she stared out, eyes dimmed with age
At a time long gone, at a different page
Upon what once was, she fixed her gaze
Remembering...remembering.
Blue eyes gazed out across the bay
Pale blue eyes tinged with gray
In her heart a girl at play
Remembering...remembering...remembering
