from my LJ blog: eyriblog.livejournal.com

Note: My goal had been to post updates while at the Con, but due to the lack of a Wi-Fi signal (and not wanting to pay $10/day for internet in my room), I improvised and wrote up posts in Word and I'll finally upload them now. Enjoy. I converted all the video I took, so I'll get that up later today on the YouTubes. Keep checkin' back today and tomorrow, I'm going to be putting up stuff randomly.

Oct. 12 - Saturday Morning

Arrived and checked in with no problems. The hotel actually wasn't as big as I thought it was going to be (that's what she said). My room is very nice, have a great view and all of that. A lack of a wi-fi signal anywhere in the hotel is rather frustrating, I'm actually typing this up in MS Word and I'll past it into LJ later.

Met up with the Sanctuary Press people around 5:30. I found out then that the people participating in the workshop had been working together for months, so they had all read each other's stuff – as had the critiquers. I was kind of the only one late to the party. Because of this, and that I want to sell copies of my book in the dealer room and I'll be on panels, I passed on critiquing anyone's work – but I'll still be at tonight's meeting and I'll act as a moderator during the critique process. Everyone is very nice and I'm certainly meeting a lot of fun people. I attended a Firefly room party last night and watched a few episodes of that classic show.

I hit up the art show – and WOW. There is some amazing stuff here. I bid on a print – they have a silent auction going on – of this Japanese like water-color of two dragons. Hard to describe but it is amazing. The artist has another that I'd love to get even more but the minimum bid is $55. That's a little too much for me.

I'm still trying to fit in and get use to all of this, it is apparent that pretty much everyone else here save me and a couple others have done a million of these cons. I'm hoping after being in the Dealer's Room for a bit today and doing that H.P. Lovecraft panel that more people will realize who I am.

Ever the shameless promoter, I laid out piles of my promo cards at different places around the con, and I have one attached to my badge, hoping people put two and two together. I'm due at the Dealer's Room in about ten minutes, and I'll be there till the Lovecraft panel. That should be a hoot – the only other guy doing is someone who worked on a Cthulhu themed book, called High Seas Cthulhu. I think it is actually a collection of short stories and he edited it or something.

I'm looking very suave today in my Motörhead t-shirt, black blazer, jeans and white cabana hat. I'm going to try and wear the hat all weekend, so I'll stick out more – there are a few too many other guys with glasses and brown hair: I have to do what I can so people notice me.
