The opening act was
The Rough Sea,
an adorable stripped-down folk duo from Ottawa. With just a guitars, a
ukulele, and a banjo, these two soft spoken dreamers sang songs about
cold winter months, the devil, and love. Christina and Justin make up
The Rough Sea, mixing their soulful versus gritty vocals creating a
beautiful composition that comes across as half-gypsy lullabyes,
half-surfer melodies. I think the sweetest thing about The Rough Sea
is their absolute candor and nervousness upon addressing the audience.
They were actually blown away by how many people were there and
admitted to being a little bit shaky opening up the show. They didn’t
need be. Everyone was blown away by this little band and it appears as
though everyone in the other towns they’ve toured to thought so as well
— they were down to only 9 CDs by this show with still a long way to go
on the tour.
