If you play a great show at an empty venue
but nobody gives a shit (as evidenced by the empty venue)
does it even qualify as a great show?
The Pneurotics

Ya know, I've been thinking about this blog for a couple of days. After tonight, I agree with The Pheurotics! Yes. Tonight was just about the worst that's ever happened to me. Stupid small crowd and worse yet, a band that said we could use their drumkit didn't even bother to show. Still, I met good people, got to play my guitar and left with a good feeling in my heart. Yes.

I'm glad-- I mean, a koan is meant to provoke thought (as if I'm profound enough to write a koan haha), and I guess the trouble is that sometimes it feels like a crowd is necessary to validate a performance, and that great feeling of performing well can be thwarted by the bitterness that always threatens to climb into your throat when you're up there, giving the performance of a lifetime and your innermost thoughts and hopes aren't enough to make someone come out.

that said...who didn't show? trox? I wish I had been there-- but Raleigh.

Rest assured I will be first row on Thursday. Because I like watching you play your guitar.

No worries! Yeah. I hope TRox is okay! As they say, shit happens.

I can understand what you mean. It does get frustrating sometimes. But, then there's the flipside of it. Nothing is scarier to me than having a packed room and people are more interested in water cooler conversations by the bar than you pouring your heart out noisily onstage. Even with that, at least your tunes are falling into more ears than an empty room. I guess, over the years, I have become resigned to whatever will be, will be when it comes to music. You can promote all you like, record, get a solid thing going, but you truly never know what will happen. It's the rollercoaster of it all I enjoy!

Okay, I'm writing a novel. I think I may blog about this ;)
